(en) In 1792 the Directorate of the West Indies requested the king to have coins struck as was done for the East Indies. With resolution 31-12-1793 this request was permitted.
The intention was to put these coins into circulation for an extra of 20%, although it is uncertain if this was actually done. It is certain that 1,200 of these Guilders were shipped to Gold Coast (nowadays Guinea).

The trial strike of 20.5 grams is a unique item and was located at the Royal Medal Cabinet in The Hague at the time of writing of Scholt/II. This museum closed its doors in 2004 and the collection is now, after a detour, located at De Nederlandsche Bank (the Dutch central bank).

The trial strike of 31 grams is a unique item as well and mentioned in the catalog by Jules Fonrobert "Verzeichnis von Münzen und Denkmünzen der Erdteile Australien, Azien, Afrika und verschiedener mohammedanischer Dynastien"
