Possible Japanese coin

I need to identify a coin in my grandfather's collection. He is now legally blind and does not use the internet. The coin appears to be very old but very well kept. It doesn't photograph well with my limited camera.
It has a 3 mountain peaks (I believe they are the Mountains of Dewa), with clouds underneath with Japanese characters in the center. Under that, it looks like a wave like pattern.
On the other side, there is a bird with wings spread (maybe a crane?), surrounded by 2 flags, with the typical flower on top that is on a lot of Japanese coins.

Any one have any info on this coin?
Pics are always better. Please take some ones for us, at least one per side.

Nice one :o ... even as someone who dislikes tokens I wouldn't refuse this one.
Also a new challenge ... I will try the transcribe the seal script.
Imperial era local medallion, maybe 1920s-30s, Taisho/early-Showa

I think that's what it is, except for how it is mounted:

Well done Camerinvs - I searched for ages last night and could not find it!
I did think it was not a coin though, as could see no denomination nor date,
and guessed it was a token or medal. :)

EDIT: Now I know what it is, I found >
Japanese military medal awarded for service in the China Incident in 1937.
The front of the medal depicts rays of light and a chrysanthemum over a mythical
bird 'Yata no Karasu' over crossed navy and army flags.
The back of the medal is inscribed with 'China Incident' in Japanese and depicts the
waves, clouds and mountains associated with the terrain the Japanese army faced in China.
Thanks! :)
I'm new here and I'm already having too much fun identifying coins and tokens submitted by other Numista members.
In the present case KennyG's expertise helped, because I used taisho and showa as key words in Google Images.
