Bahrain coins owners. Dates confirmation? [solved]

5 posts
So as a new referee for Bahrain, I've double checked all year lines, and came up with 5 years that I'm quite sure they don't exist. But I would like to have confirmation from fellow collectors. So if you own any of these, please post a picture to prove it, otherwise I will ask for them to be deleted.

The concerned dates/types are:

100 Fils
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1306.html
1425 (2004)
I believe it doesn't exist

25 Fils
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces3614.html
1429 (2008)
I believe it doesn't exist

10 Fils (non-magnetic; 1st type "فلس")
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces6633.html
1430 (2009)
I believe it only exists as non-magnetic; 2nd type "فلوس"
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces46715.html

1431 (2010) & 1432 (2011)
I believe both only exist as magnetic; 2nd type "فلوس"

Thank a lot! :wiz:

I encourage your quest to make our catalogue as accurate as possible but I think "I believe" the coin doesn't exist is not good enough, you have to be sure. I don't know who added all those year lines. If they come from Krause I'm well aware there are a lot of mistakes in Krause and this could be some of them. But for all those coins you ask about there are some members who have this dates in their exchange lists. So there must be a lot more who also have these coins in their collection lists. I'm also aware that some members (if not all of us) sometimes thick the wrong boxes. But is it possible that concerning these 5 coins all these members are wrong?
Why do you think they don't exist? Is their an official website from the Bahrain Mint (or from the Mint who strikes the Bahrain coins)? Is there a specialized catalogue for these region who indicates those dates don't exist?

I don't know if you as referee have the possibility/rights to check which members have these coins but if you can I would send a message to all of them and ask for pictures/scans. The chance you'll reach these members through the forum is too small.
Thanks for your concerns.

- I believe because similar cases with UAE, Qatar and Kuwait I've dealt with before resulted in getting the wrong year lines deleted after researching and checking with others.

- There isn't a specialized catalog I'm aware of. Krause lacks latest years and have no info about 1st/2nd types, magnetic and non-magnetic, so it's way behind (at least in its 2016 version, haven't seen the 2017 one)
However, a very good website (owner is a member here I believe, and we have permission to use its pix) have all years listed with pix of each year
http://www.chiefacoins.com/

- The extra year in the 100 & 25 fils are listed in Krause so that's where they came from. The 3 year lines in the 10 fils are listed in Krause along other year lines as a 1 type, and hence listed on Numista. Later on different types where discovered and new pages were created but these year lines were not deleted off the 1st page, and that's why they exist.

- As for owners: for the year in the 100 fils coin; "15 members" only own that year; against an average of 250 members for the other year lines.
- "10 members" only own that year; against an average of 200 members for the other year lines.
- The 3 year lines for the 10 fils: about 35 each against an average of 200 for the other ones

- Searching for pix on google, couldn't find anything for these 5 year lines

- And lastly, I can only see number of owners for each year, but can't see their names

Some members check all year lines because they cannot get all years (proofs/rare) or because they have one year and collect by type, so they want "complete" green double tick at catalogue view.

10-15 members are quite accurate number for this.
