Anybody have any info on this Isle of Man 50pence?

I can't tell you the weight, I have no scales, but it's the large type (30mm) with no die letters and also looks silver proof. I can't seem to find this coin in any catalog.

All the best

Looks like KM #593 . Did you try a magnet yet?

Magnet won´t say anything. Copper-nickel is not magnetic as well as silver. It is better to do the ice test.
Good catch! Seems like only the nickel part of the coins description registered earlier.
To use a good British term, it appears to be a cock-up on the part of Krause. They show an image of the reverse (as opposed to both the obverse and reverse) for the coin, and then they list both the 1996 AA and 1997 AA copper-nickel versions, but they don't mention any silver proof. My guess is, they just missed it, due to all the other NCLT the Pobjoy Mint produced that year. Do you have any of the original packaging?

Certainly has the strong frosted look of a silver proof, normally the frosting is not so high in CuNi proofs.

It's in the original box, but no certificate:

Here it is compared to my CuNi one:

If it is silver a neodynium magnet will show a response. I dont know if that is spelled right. Another test is to lay a kleenex tissue, toilet paper, or paper towel over the coin. If it appears white through the paper then its probably silver. The box isnt a good clue. It is a standard box used for any metal.
i would lean towards it being a catalog oversight. The 1996 and 1997 design is part of the circulating sports designs. A silver penny, a silver 5 pence, a silver 10 pence, a silver pound, and a silver 5 pound of 1996 all are listed. Not listed is your 50d, 2d, 20d, or 2 pound.

if someone had a 1996 silver proofset or even a 1997 silver proof set that would be awesome.

I think it is safe to say it is a silver proof. It fits the pattern of the other listings by denomination and other 1996 circ issues that are confirmed in silver proof non circ conditions.

please create a listing that mirrors the cn listings as much as possible. Upload pictures if you can so I can approve it in the Manx listings. Use the silver weight and finess of the silver proof 50d listed...they are all the same.

We will get this fixed.

They do mention a silver proof for 1997 but not for 1996, but I'm also pretty sure they've just missed it:

The 50 p you reference is the reduced size. We are talking about the full size KM#593.

I'm sorry, my mistake. I was only looking at the date, not at the weight.
No problem. It kept me on my toes.

Never let it be said that Pobjoy Mint would miss an opportunity for another issue! Large size, small size, Cu-Ni, Silver, Circulation, Proof - the possibilities are endless! :O
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

Thanks to everyone for their help, it looks like a Krause catalogue omission. I have created a list for the Numista catalogue, pending submission.
