I have found 2 varieties of Mexican 100 pesos 1988. Have they been described somewhere before?
Nice find with the "88" touching, thanks. I'll have to check my doubles to see if I also have both varieties.
I love Mexican coins there are all kinds of varieties. I find looking for differences very restful for my mind. Dates are a big one , but don't forget the mint mark. I have been getting as many Mexico coins as I can find. Here is a 20 peso 1982 Km486 with bold date anthin date. Open M and closed M in mint mark

The one I still need to work on is the Mexico 200 peso 75 anv. of the 1910 revolution. Km 510I have found an open D and closed D. I have been told the open D is a restrike. But don't have enough time.

Don't forget the eagle there too. And on edging of groups of lines count the groups and the lines in the groups. You will find differences.I hope to someday have the time to go though them. But great fun
It is, what it is, or is it.
Here two types of open M mint marks. The 2 are different

The first one has a odd looking two . I may open a post just for Mexican varieties.
The M are different too thick and thin lines
God I just love Mexican coins, keep my mind busy

ciscoins

Do you have pics of the 1987 100 pesos double eyeglasses?

Hi,

to my knowledge that variant has not been documented so far.... and I never noticed it either, will have to go through my doubles again!

Hello,
Long time collector. Just joined Numista - First time response in this BBS.

I have recently observed possible new variations of both thick and narrow 1988, 100 pesos.

Has anyone else seen these?
  1. (same coin) 88 is narrow and thick, second 8 a bit off
  2. '88 wide
  3. '88 narrow and thin - The second 8 is shorter than the first
  4. '88 narrow and thin (sloppy second 8)
  5. '88 narrow? second 8 looks to be dropping.

Can I use your images to set up a proper documentation? I don't even know the variant of my 1988 coin....

Hi Daryl, I know I can use you images for documentations, but I just want to make sure the promise still stands?
Take care

Hi Ole
Yes you can use anything I have. No problem . About a year ago I got mad to the point I packed up most of my coins and sold some. I am trying to get back up an running. I took everything out. My Mexico is still some what in boxes. I hope I can find the ones I did not put up here in the forum. It is slow going. , I think in 2 more years I will be back to normal.
Has anyone found the double eye glasses yet?.
edit still having issues putting images up.
It is, what it is, or is it.
Oh the 1982 I think is the 50 peso coin. I will try to find. On the 1988 the braille (for 100) is narrow and wide too.

I like collecting Mexican coins. My question (request) is regarding the 1982 50 Peso coin. I have collected several of these over the past 30 years but I have noticed something which I need explained. On the reverse of one of the coins, the writing Estados Unidos Mexicanos is larger on one coin than the other. I have had this verified by a coin dealer but he offered no reason as to why this is. Can anybody out there offer reasoning for this or do I have an error coin? Any info will help in solving my observation. Thank you, Simon (englandnative).
Just different dies, I suppose. I cannot show you any documentation of your variant, since I only know the two below.....
