I just recently acquired a banknote that among other things depicts a couple of vikings in horned helmets. I had also recently read a report that the vikings did not really have a helmet style with horns that was worn. I have not researched it further. Is this enough information for a numismatic detective to guess what my note is?

Wow! That fantasy note fits the bill. But looking for a real, legal, government or bank, issued note. I will say it isn't as dramatic as the note you showed.

Vikings indeed did not wear horned helmets. If they had a helmet at all it would be a simple cap style, sometimes with a noseguard.
I can't wait to see this mystery banknote though, I couldn't begin to guess what it is.

I haven't heard of any Canadian ones. Though the Vikings did stay here for a time.

I sincerely hope the day will never come when Djibouti issues a Viking banknote. That would be a sad day indeed.

Well it is a Unesco Heritage Site, sillier things have ended up on currency.
I still haven't found anything.

What a great Ukranian note! Is it possible that vikings were in the Ukraine? I have read of their presence in Rome, Paris, and that as the Rus were in Russia as well. The boat certainly appears vikingy...but I have in mind another nation and another note.

Popular history says that Ukraine had many Vikings visit and stay there, and they potentially even founded Kiev. It's debated among historians though.

Gotta even that up.

Sweden has never had anything with vikings, so this is probably the closes I'll get.
Norway 50 Kroner 1990:
Denmark also had a few from 90's to early 00's.
No horns on the helmets though, since they didn't have any horns. If they ever had horns, it was only for ceremonial purposes.

Excellent! The 10 shilling has the same design as the 50 pence I was thinking of. And if you look closely...you can see the vikings in their horned helmets.

That's a nice looking note, even with the horns. They do look striking in silhouette.

There is no date on there, but the signature says 1961, when did the horned helmet thing start anyway?

Horned helmets were a thing a few centuries before the Viking Age, they were fully out of style before the Vikings came onto the scene at all. I think the horned helmet in association with Vikings caught fire at some point in the 1800s. Much like our (pretty much wrong) depiction of pirates comes from popular culture, someone wrote about Vikings having horned helmets and the image just stuck.
