Tongan Commemoratives

Does anyone know the story behind these two Tongan commemorative coins: 1 pa'anga coins from 1968, km 34 and km 36. They are listed in the Numista catalogue as circulating but I have doubts. They are low montage, counter marked, and gold plated which seems odd for circulating coins. Does anyone know their story and if they actually circulated?

they are not circulating- someone is mistaken
I disagree. I have the gold plated and counteRmarked coins in unc and in circulated condition. Maybe the circulation was informal after folks stopped buying? That happened with a lot of US commems. Ended up just circulating them.

Will actually you are wrong the gold plated coins were not circulated but were often handled a lot so they look circulated
I looked at the Wikipedia page for the Tongan Pa'anga (not the most reliable source, I know) and it says that a small number of the gold plated coins were released into circulation . So I'm still confused.

What about the 1 and 2 pa'anga FAO commemorative coins from the late 1970s and early 1980s? Were they circulating coins?
According to the Tongans I have met these coins circulated, the gold plated ones, the rectangular ones, the Christmas ones, and the big giant ones...they encountered them in circulation. Also, for some decades the were reported in Krause in more than one grade I believe. Id be interested in how Druzhynets is convinced otherwise.

Muzz's observation about the gold ones being handled is believable. But how is Druzhynets convinced? Does he own these coins? Is he just going on feeling? If we claim fact on this websight based on feeling than this website will only ever serve as a junk source. I would hope that Numista could be a credible source. Does text support Druzhynets conviction? Do Tongans support it? How about collectors that own the coins? Muzz makes a good point. But the Tongans I have met do to. But maybe other Tongans would disagree. I have these coins in several conditions. Do other collectors? There must be more than just Krause that has mention of these issues...what does the mint say? What does the Tongan ref say? Id still like to know why Druzhynets is convinced enough to make a change at all?

if a few had been circulated what would the face value of them have been---we have more Tongans in NZ than they do in TONGA , the 2-3 I have asked say yes they were for sale at the bank, but at inflated prices, and certainly not intended for circulation- i have seen one of these coins in XF condition-still in the same family that bought it they gladly got it out of its little purse and handed around for all to admire
Here is my coin I recently got. There are some small marks on the coin. Difficult to say if this coin circulated or not. If it did it won't be much:

I support Muzz in this matter.
