What would be the correct demonetization date to use in coin sheets?
30-9-2013 (discontinued from the office from this date)
30-09-2014 (last day to accept coins for exchange in banks)
1-10-2014 (1st day after the above date)

The second one. That was the day that they were no longer accepted or recognized as legal tender.

exactly my opinion, "till close of banking hours on September 30, 2014".
However, that article title uses the 3rd option, and coins on numista are using the 1st option. that's why I wanted to double check

2nd option too, as it's the date the face value is "officially removed".

Will use that one then, thank you both!

Ok another question, are all patterns and trial strikes / essais demonetized by default, the day they were issued?

No, not technically. Unless they were made for a different currency system, they are not demonotized until the currency is. Because they COULD still be spent.
I'm not talking about among public. I mean officially, central bank wise? Aren't these supposed to be testing pieces / collector items with no real monetary value?
I'm asking as I don't really know

No, they have no bank value, but neither do commemorative coins, like silver or gold, but they are not demonotized.
Silver and gold do have a monetary value and can be exchanged for face value.

No they can not. Read this: https://gold-forum.kitco.com/showthread.php?106407-20-for-20-coins-are-NOT-accepted-at-Canadian-banks!
I'd say pattern and trial strike are not even monetized (nor demonetized) because are made with purpose to be exchanged for goods or service but rather to test the design, etc.

The Canadian example of the $20 for $20, the $50 for $50 and the $100 for $100 is a bit tricky because these coins are legal tender but are part of what some call the Non Circulating Legal Tender (NCLT). Technically, both can be exchanged for goods or services at face value under the Currency act as they're minted by the RCM with a face denomination. But looks like interpretation of the Currency Act also makes it legal for banks and business to refuse coins (i.e. NCLT coins) under the argument "if you're suspicious about a coin or a banknote, you can refuse it".

so to mark them as?
And once again, it's not about what we think.
Any one has any idea about their official status? I think that's what matters the most ..

This is already a topic on the agenda for next admin meeting and I also questioned myself on this while going over China Republic pattern. :D
I propose to add a tick box stating something like "Not monetized" within coin file. This would solve the problem for tokens and potentially could be applied to pattern and trial strike.

Seems I love to argue X-D

On my opinion demonetization date is the first on, since is the date the issuer decrees the coins lose their monetary value, the extra year is the time they give to change the coins at bank, but in fact everybody could refuse to accept them. The most usual is people use them till they are finally not accepted.

Again: in this case 01/10/2013 to 30/09/2014 is the time when banks will accept the coins, but will not give them. Is just a more-than-enough lapse of time to change the coins. Nowhere in the article says someone out of banks must accept the coins.

Just my opinion, now will stay in my corner waiting for the furious crowd holding sticks and torches. :O
Just 10 options: you understand binary, or you don't.
