Duchy of Glatz or?

8 posts
Hello friends,

Yesterday I started researching one interesting coin (which I do not posses yet). There is a big letter: H in the middle of the coin, and on the reverse some letters similar of that of the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth or Holland. Very strange indeed. But nevertheless, I have some theories that this coin is neither Polish-lithuanian or Holland. I think that it's either some coinage of Henry III or one of the following:

1. Duchy of Glatz - link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces91639.html
2. Norway - link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces118148.html
https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces111163.html
3. Desana - link: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces91302.html

Am I on the right track or?

Thanks!

Kind regards,

Stefan

I have doubts about the letter H
If you turn that picture 180° it looks like a castle gate or something like that
Your coin gives me a mediëval feeling (1200-1500)
But I can be wrong, just guessing
Nevertheless, it is a nice coin

To exclude polish-lithuanian (or the region), please ask geraltttt82:

Im sure it is not from Polish Lithuanian Commonweath, and Im almost sure it is not conected to Polish Kingdom also.

On this side of coin I think there is: + E..... CVS

and coin could be rather from period 1000 - 1200, something like this ones:

But unfortunetly I have no idea, what country it is
Thanks ! well, the search continues, all these countries are very similar, but this remains a mystery. Damn, this is a hard one :) Brittany is as close as they get as well....

Italy, Lucca, Henry III-V, 1039-1125, AR denaro. The letters at reverse center are LVCA (Image below courtesy CNG). This type (or similar) is in the Numista catalog, though you'd never know it from the photo.

You are some kind of gods in numismatics... :)

Thanks once again!
