found this coin with donor coin 5 Reichspfennig (https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1917.html). You can clearly see the donor coin.

are those coins rare?
Never seen one before.....

What a wonderful coin! It is sometimes rare to be able to see the donor coin so clearly. But actually this happens quite often. Italy did this a lot. Especially with the 20 centesimi. I have seen several with the donor coin clearly visible. South American countries and Central American countries overstrike...I have Costa Rican coin that was overstruck with a new date and denomination. But the overstrike was so small in relation to the host coin. You could see the design all around the edge.

Look into german Jaeger-catalogue ("coins under allied occupation", page 369 in 23rd edition):

"Austria struck its first after-war-coins (1, 5 and 10 Groschen) by recoining 1 (J# 369, 373), 5 (J# 370, 374) and 10 Reichspfennig (J# 371, 375)."

Nice and special coin!

Yes, I know about the basic facts of this coin and I know that it is a very Common coin. but I think it is very uncommon to find one were you can see the previous coin so clearly.

I think you should take a closer look at the pictures in the beginning of this tread : the groschen coin isn't rare, but it's rare to see the image of the host coin (5 reichspfennig) on it !

I have an interesting one with such an image, at least I think: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces18836.html

Yes I will do so, but first I will try to take better pictures. Your example of a clearly visible overstrucked coin is also very intersting.

Better pictures...
