OK, so here's a non-coin thread to please the masses ;) What sort of music are you listening to at the moment, share your favourite tunes and maybe inspire some other members with your music tastes.

My tastes are pretty eclectic, something I've been listening to at the moment is this NZ duo called "Hopetoun Brown" they do funk jazz stuff and I love the bass clarinet sound they have

I also enjoy the "Gangstagrass" sound (bluegrass music with gangsata rap) the theme tune to a show my wife and I like "Justified" is a good example of this

Another Kiwi band that I enjoy is "Fly my Pretties" They do a range of music styles from the ballard "Singing in my soul" to the more funky "Bag of Money"

Some of the pop music my kids listen too is pretty decent too, I quite like Imagine Dragons, especially the song "Thunder"

Then there's the good old metal of my childhood, I grew up listening to Metallica and I've been revisiting it a bit recently. Here's a classic from the "Ride the Lightning" album "For whom the bell tolls"

Fantastic choice for a topic! :`

Anyway, some of you already know my soft spot for the era between world wars, and for jazz...

Django Reinhardt's take on the Charleston (recorded 1937):

Duke Ellington's Merry Go Round (1933 or 1935)

Charles Trenet had many good songs in the 30's, such as Menilmontant and Boum (both 1938)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7xBBN50UEU (English version of "Boum!")

Nick Lucas (kind of a forgotten US artist) had many hits in the 1920s; these two are "[Looking at the World through] Rose Coloured Glasses (1926)" and "Tiptoe through the Tulips (1929)". Tiny Tim's 1960s cover of the latter absolutely wrecked it IMO.

Sound of silence is an awesome cover. Disturbed seem to have done a lot of covers recently, they've also done Genesis "Land of Confusion" and Tears for Fears "Shout"

They seem to have started a trend because I've heard a few metal bands covering older songs recently, like this Bad Wolves cover of the Cranberries song "Zombie" and Five FInger Death Punch cover of "House of the Rising Sun" Although they've gone for the whole movie music video and the song doesn't start until 2 minutes into the video

I'm a sort of a metalhead despite the fact I do not only listen to metal. These days some tracks keep playing more than others...

I'm glad someone else has likes Blind Guardian, I'm more partial to something like "Nightfall in Middle Earth" and their cover of "Mr Sandman" is pretty funny

Very cool song (Rasputin by Boney M) played on an organ from 1905:

That is a great song... I normally like to listen to music that makes your ears bleed https://youtu.be/NMwhJ6JV25Y
In the past year have really taken a liking to the Vietnam War era music it really helps me chill when little else works and makes me feel like I can really connect with some of our nations not so remembered heros.

Now there's a song that anyone can sing, regardless of any musical talents. I love this version from The Kingsman =

If you can't carry a tune just shut your eyes and go for it. I do.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Do not argue with ignorant people .. !! They will drag you down to their level, then pulverize you with experience ...
I've been obsessed for months with the English folk music revival. John Kirkpatrick in particular, both his solo work and with groups like the Albion Country Band, Brass Monkey, etc. But I have learning to play the melodeon (button accordion) so all this listening is to soak up the style and hopefully improve by osmosis.
