Hi,

according to the SCWC the so called "Dollar" in numista ought to be "Tala". I would agree with that for the coins issued by Pobjoy for Tokelau, see the documentation. The circulated currency in Tokelau is the New Zealand dollar, which has nothing to do with "tokens" from Tokelau:

Hi,

that's what I just said about the circulating currency. You don't find cents and dollars issued for Tokelau!!!!

The Tala coins are NON circulating "coins" made by the Pobjoy mint just to earn money, so they are Talas and NOT Dollars!

Yes, but according to the screenshot you posted, Tala is just Tokelauan for Dollar.
Hi,

ALL the coins from Tokelau in the SCWC 13th edition are like this:

In Tokelauan they say Tala, and I think it even says Tala on the coins they've issued in the passed (even though they are using the NZ Dollar). Samoa are using the Tala as well, with also is the Samoan word for Dollar. I can't see why it often get discussed if we should use the local name or not. Just make up your minds already!

Again I would go for the SCWC's use of Tala, since it avoids confusion for the people using the KM# when they find out that numista has decided to use the name dollar......

Tokelau now uses New Zealand currency. Unless referee is willing to change all coins there, I will take it to Xavier to do at once. Fixing this might take some time this way though.

Only from the 1970's until the late 1980's,Tokelau's medal-coins are denominated in Tala.

In recent years,Tokelau's medal-coins are denominated in Dollars.

Using the denominations should apply to what is inscribed on the medal-coins - Tala being used for those inscribed 'Tala',& Dollar being used for those inscribed 'Dollar'.

That would make it all much more confusing and messy. It's still the same currency, just with local name and English name. We can't mix them.

Hi Aidan,

that's completely wrong! In my first post you can see the the denominations in the 13th edition of the SCWC!

What do you base your sayings on? Please show your documentation? Thank you!
