Denom clarity [solved]

New to the site and love it. Tremendous work by all involved.

Something I find confusing though is how denominations can be different within listings.

Here for example:

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces1404.html

...is an Irish "5 pingin", yet the value in the Features area says "5 pence".

A similar situation exists with this Egyptian coin:

Is it 5 qirsh or piastres?
Usually, this happens when coin is called by two different names. By having it like this, it can be searched by both terms quickly. <:D

Hello and welcome,

I usually prefer to have the coin page's title as 5 Qirsh/Piastres, or 10 Soldi / 50 Centesimi (the latter has been applied by the referee for the Italian states), in situations where a coin commonly has two names. That way we can have clarity and search functionality both ways. ;)

Then I choose one of them to use for the "denomination in word form" field of the Features box.

Just for the record, qirsh and piastres are the exact same thing just in different languages; qirsh is an Egyptian Arabic term, whereas piastre is an international one, and so are penny and pingin, the former being in English and the latter being in Irish Gaelic.
Thx for the explanations.

I was ready to rip open my Irish 2x2's and correct them.
