Will Krause assign KM#s to new coins? [solved]

Hello,

As referee for a few modern countries that continue to issue coins today, many of them from the last five years or so, (particularly NCLTs that are pumped out as mint products) have no reference numbers at all in our catalogue.

When should I expect to have them included in SCWC, and how much does it differ depending on country (as in I expect modern US coins to get KM#s faster than Ivorian or Sri Lankan coins)?

My PDF of the 2018 edition of Krause's 2001-date catalogue I have, is extremely incomplete for many countries, some of which I referee for- so it is of little help to me.
I believe the first word of your question is absolutely redundant. You can start with second one instead. (And remove TO as well. :°)

They get information about new coins the same way Numista does - from contributors, so the best answer you can hope for is "eventually".

Back when George Cuhaj was the senior editor, I've e-mailed him directly with some corrections/new coin info, but I doubt he is still involved with the catalog after stepping down from that position. You could try submitting new coin info to one of the current editors.

Their e-mail addresses, as published on Krause's official (but not very well maintained) site, http://numismaster.com :

Though, considering how fast world mints are pumping out new coins, both circulating commemoratives and NCLTs, if Krause added everything that's missing, they would have to split the 2001-date catalog into a dozen volumes before the decade is over.

I am a bit more sceptic. Of course it is the NCLT scourge that is to blame, and not Krause, but I doubt they will issue any more catalogues (splits) with their current speed of inclusion of newly minted coins, it would be just an empty shell catalogue.

More and more countries jump on the NCLT scourge wave, and it is hard to keep up even on Numista.

Alrighty, thanks. Would you suggest emailing them and asking them to take a look at Numista's listings for some of the modern NCLTs? Thanks to the effort of myself and others, some of them (e.g. Niger and Guinea) are far more complete than anything Krause has, and I would be glad for my work to be of help to the venerable SCWC. :`

Agreed; I can barely even keep up with the wave of NCLTs for the last few years myself! Côte d'Ivoire has issued six different series for the Wonders of the Ancient World, all in different denominations or specifications (42 coins total); it was painstaking adding them all to the catalogue. 8~

Well, Krause editors do often complain that world mints are far more interested in bolstering sales than making them aware of new coins, so I'm sure they would be interested in gaining as many contributors as they can get. They might even send you a free copy of their catalogs if you're a regular contributor. Whether they would want a closer collaboration with Numista is another question - you'll just have to ask them.

In any case, be prepared for a long wait. Even if you were to provide them with new coin info, they are not going to add new listings instantly, so don't expect them to reply to you with a bunch of new KM#s. They are always working on one catalog or another and depending on where they are in their publishing cycle, it can take months before they have a chance to verify the data, come up with pricing, etc.

As a regular contributor to Krause for coins and banknote issues, when you send in information for an update, focus each email to a single item. In the subject use the country, the denomination, the year. In the body be as detailed as you can and include an image if you can.
understand that the catalog updating for the next year usually ends the previous year by September.
so if it is September of 2019, then there will be no more updates for the 2021 catalog issued in April of 2020. Also, if you send in an update for an A country and they are already in the C and D section, it may be even longer before you see your information appear.

I'm still waiting for the newer Tajik coins (after 2011) to be added. Or maybe someone have a catalogue of just Tajik coins? (If so, and it's in Russian/Tajik it's okay 0:) ).
