HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE:
Center picture is of “Portsmouth Iron Works ”, eventually the first steel mill in Ohio.
These notes were issued near the end of the “Great Depression” and 1 year after the flood of 1937. This celebration was used by banks and buisnesses to demonstrate they had recovered (or are recovering).
NOTES & VARIETIES:
There were printed 5 different notes in 2 varieties (Ea. note).
Variety 1: Horizontal grain pattern (Pictured)
Variety 2: Vertical grain pattern. The verticle grain pattern were not as robust as the horizontal grain pattern, It is thought that most of them have not survived.
