(en) The obverse of the medal features a detailed portrait of Alexandru Ioan Cuza, shown in military attire with decorative insignia on his chest. Around the upper edge is the inscription “DOMNITORUL PRINCIPATELOR UNITE” (Ruler of the United Principalities). On either side of the portrait are the years 1859 and 1866, marking the beginning and end of his reign. Along the lower edge appears the name “A.I. CUZA.” The design honors Alexandru Ioan Cuza as the first ruler of the united Romanian principalities.
