This medal commemorates the 25th anniversary of currency reform in Ukraine. A nation’s currency is a vital attribute of its statehood. That is why 2 September 1996—the day the hryvnia was introduced into circulation—remains a momentous date in Ukrainian history. The hryvnia is the successor to the state traditions of Kyivan Rus and the Ukrainian People’s Republic. Today, the NBU’s banknote and coin production is modern and high-tech, ensuring the national economy is supplied with high-quality currency of all necessary denominations.
