Description

This 1986 BU Set of coins was minted by The Royal Mint in Llantrisant and issued by the New Zealand Government Treasury. It was issued in a Green plastic wallet.

The set contains six standard definitive coins. 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c & 50c.

This was the first New Zealand BU Set with the Raphael Maklouf 3rd portrait of Queen Elizabeth II on the Obverse.

The NCLT $1 coin is commemorating the Kakapo bird, also called the owl parrot, which is a species of large, flightless, nocturnal, ground-dwelling parrot of the super-family Strigopoidea, endemic to New Zealand. It has finely blotched yellow-green plumage, a distinct facial disc, a large grey beak, short legs, large feet, and relatively short wings and tail.
