Since I started adding my collection to Numista and “grading” them. I think that personally I’m not grading them appropriately I have read the how to grade my coin (shame there isn’t a how to grade a banknote one yet) and even compared some of my coins to it but as of yet I’m still puzzled if I’m doing it right.
I know it says “If in doubt, step down a grade” which I’ve done but I think that I’m under-grading my coins so can anyone help me/give professional advice on this please?
Update: I’ve sorted out grading my notes but still need help for my coins.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
Citation: "Oklahoman"I am not the best grader either. My notes are all unc if they are unc. And I mark em as the low grade if they are circulated...
Thanks for the reassurance. It probably takes a long time to grade coins and notes correctly.

Citation: "GOLDSilver0716"I know that numistas rarity scale is not what you want to use for grading, if that’s what you’re asking. There are some YouTube videos that help.
Thanks for the advice.

You're asking members to judge if you're grading your coins correctly. How do you expect anyone to know or even have an opinion if you don't provide examples of your coins and how you graded them? Besides, your profile states, "I try to grade my coins and notes the best as I can by using my own grading system." If it's your own grading system, only you can know if you're doing it correctly.
I suggest you do a search for "grading coins" in the forums and make a note of all the different sites suggested and other advice previously given.

XF
AU
UNC

I am a novice at grading like you so I'm not a good one to ask but since you did...I agree with your G and VG coins. I think your F and VF are under graded and I agree with your XF. I wouldn't want to grade AU or UNC without having the coin in hand. Let's see what other members have to say.
In the meantime read this thread https://en.numista.com/forum/topic68487.html and see if you think you followed the guidelines presented. Also note the conversations about grading be very subjective and which attributes of the coin go into the grade and which don't. It's unlikely you'll ever be an expert at grading but with practice and feedback from others you'll progress past being a novice.
Have a nice day to the European Championship and especially health.
So I share my opinion without salt.
But my opinion is only mine and I am also only human.
UNC coins can have only one scratch -when they land in the mint in the collection bin on the edge of the coin.
UNC ....... And only the -XF coin corresponds to that
coins G and VG are the same for me -probably a larger spacing in our small scale ( therefore, someone prefers to go to the American scale)
F - And this is your job, just know how my memory serves me you clean so drastically with a sponge of coins and smudges remain in one direction. ( it's not salt it's memory -don't take it badly and I'm just built)
I had to add a reason why Unc is not UNC:
these are the digs in the coin in circulation- For me, a UNC coin can be dirty, soiled and variously coated with a natural patina, however, her body must show no signs of circulation ( and can also be from mud and clay)
yours has scratches on your body
I'm not like that for my coins - I don't rate them or either I like them or I don't collect them and cuddle-rather the history and stories of their origin and processing. I have about a hundred or two hundred and three hundred ... posts where I ask what coin I have -and I never once asked her price for how much I would sell her once and I never asked for her to be included in any scale -rating scale.
I'm happy to save a historical coin from a story , by being identifiable in front of the circus attraction of today's pee sellers of everything.
It's up to us all - we set the principles.
Also remember that different grades can mean different things for different coins. A 400 year old taler in XF may have the same grade as an XF euro coin, but they will be graded in very different ways.
Thanks for all of the responses please keep them coming.
Also how do you grade corroded coins because at the moment I keep them strictly in the G to VG group regardless if the rest of the coin is in F+ condition, pictures coming soon.
Finally in your opinion how do you grade you coins from G-UNC just to give me some Ideas of how it works and from the responses I will go through my collection for the 10th time and check if my coins I either under-graded or over-graded.

Have a nice day and health on a separate island.
Thank you, you took my previous post in a sporty way - And that's the way it should be.
I'll reveal a secret ,, Every collector has his opinion ,,
It is difficult to rate coins on a 5-point scale. You used the term,, F + ,, yourself - and here is our ingenuity , how to help and increase the degrees by marking ,, + ,, ( G+, VF+ etc. ) ........ So when I count correctly outside the UNC, we added a scale of 4 times
UNC is absolutely unique connected and clear -however, even there we managed to distinguish between coins. We add the designation,, BU,, to this ....... ( Brilliant uncirculated ) so we add more degree of evaluation .
So we're at 10 degrees .
Coin stamp polished gives us ,, PROOF ,,
Sometimes when I sell I also come across a label.......,, PL,, proof like , RL -embossing gloss ,, German --ST or STG,,
PL coins are always all in gloss and are removed from the machines individually. ( and I also have UNC coins after 700 years of dry storage in the mint treasury. )
I think it's up to us how you evaluate it , we had to increase the range of degrees for the individual to be precise and pay attention to absolute perfection and then he is unhappy when a colleague gives him a lower grade , So for me a greater joy of humor and fun in this hooby -leave the stress to the primitives.
is there still I think sometimes even numerical marking with us 1/1, 0/0, 2/2-VF .... etc. But that's not our goal, it's just a regional scale -I mean the Euro-Asian auction and sales system. So enjoy it and rate it according to the approach and knowledge.
I am neither a specialist nor do I deal with or bother with evaluation , however, I often buy and watch what the seller offers and what he thinks about it ( and I also have UNC coins after 700 years of dry storage in the mint treasury.)

Had you read the forum post I referenced above you would have found some answers to this question. Do some research on your own. There's a wealth of information out there, easily available with any search engine. Then you'll be able to ask questions more specific and specialized than How should I grade my coins?

Thanks for you advice. There should a universal coin grading system to avoid confusion and coins that are not graded properly.

Yes I have read that tread but there is one thing missing pictures as examples that’s why for the past few weeks I have been slowly educating myself with which grade is appropriate for the coin in particular.

When grading I like to base it off wear (as shown below). When in doubt I go one grade down and I'm super strict on the luster rule. Keep in mind some coins (such as American coins in general) usually have own guides which should be followed. This is mostly a good rule for "generic" world coins, however, if swapping always make sure to send pictures so they can decide whether they agree with your grade.

Thanks to everyone who have helped. Also I will be opening a new tread for the coins I would need help grading.
Have a good day or night wherever you are in the world.
