I know this sounds crazy, but I might leave Numista, because it has caused me so many problems. Even if I do leave, I will still be their in the background, perhaps swapping once every two months or so. Does anybody know of any common issues solutions?
It's members like you who provoke thought into our coins, not just hoarding coins. Your recent posts were really interesting, I think, and your responses were well put out. It's kinda hard to word, but I try to be as honest as I can when I say that.
I think a problem that Numista has recently is trust issues. There aren't many scammers because, as far as I know, Numista's pretty clean. There was a time when one member wanted to give another member free coins, and the would-be-recipient thought it was a scam because he would be giving his address away. Some other time a member claimed that he had a real (and expensive) coin that many members denied, collectively. And there was another member who had a real coin that didn't seem real to members just because it was graded by some odd company. We need to start trusting each other. The time that we put in to talk to each other on the forum is probably not to rip someone off, but to give something that they don't have and get something you never would've gotten before.
You gotta stay man.

This seems to be pretty common kind of issues that people experience in the Virtual World. It is in human nature to trust people that we meet face-to-face and be suspicious about people we communicate over virtual channels. I want to believe that the majority of people in the world are good and honest and though often we have to deal with crooks and liars more often we meet good people, even in the virtual world.

Well said, SmartOne, I quite agree. One of Numista's strengths is the Forum activity and the experience and knowledge of the members who post here. We don't like losing any members but especially not those who have been here almost a year and are active contributors to the forum like dptashny.
I agree that the Numista membership in general may have become slightly paranoid about scammers and trolls but I think that is just because, as a rule, these unsavoury types are more scarce on our site than elsewhere and we are anxious to preserve our integrity.
Having said that, I also agree that we should calm down and relax a bit and trust that, if someone does come on to this site to lie, cheat or generally scam their way into a few free coins, then they will be named and shamed and hopefully booted out.
As smoked_caramel said, it is difficult to trust someone that you don't know personally and can't see face to face but once that trust has been earned through consistent and sensible forum activity and/or well-rated coin exchanges then we have to actually give that trust and accept these people into the community.
Finally, dptashny, I hope you don't go but if you do feel compelled to leave please don't do it before exchanging a PM or two with some of the members who you have come to know and like.
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.
So to smoke out these people who are on the scam why not have a yearly membership ? It would still be beneficial to members like us who are regular and would put off the rouges ?
... But I still think that the Numista team should spend more time getting rid of scammers.
I heard that different Numista team members have different jobs, and I think this should be the types of Numista team members, instead of the ones we have:
1. Moderators
2. Editors (for the catalog)
3. Safety Moderators (getting rid of the few scammers on Numista)
4. Editors (of the website as a whole)
There's so much to discuss at the dawn of 2013 (you know, if the world doesn't end) which includes moderating different parts of the forum. Team members like Ben and Zac would probably focus on #3, Safety Moderators while I'd probably be an Editor for both the catalogue and the website as a whole. There should also be publishers for Numisdoc.
I feel that Numisdoc should be more Wikified by the way, meaning that it should be more collaborative. This probably deserves a new post, huh.

I'm glad your gunna be editing the catalogue as the Sumatra and certain areas like that need altering as Sumatra says Netherlands East Indies but it should also say British rule during certain dates when France occupied the Netherlands and Britain took over those colonies as they 4 keping I have is an east India company coin not VOC same with java too. The island of Sumatra coins though, they weren't struck by the Netherlands East Indies nor east India company.. They were made by merchants in Singapore as trade tokens that's just a little bit of input I have when you get your new powers I can go a bit more in depth to make this better and in a few other areas of the empire. I also think that it should be mentioned that they are part of the British empire like you have with roman coins as then someone like me would benefit from it by just searching British empire and then looking at all the different coinages

Ohh if you are Editor, I really hope that you will follow the rules of Xavier, discuss with the team and not work alone in your corner !!!

Ha, I remember that.
I promise to ask both the French forum and the Team before making any change like that. I think I'll ask next year both French and Team, as well as English forum again if merging countries that big is okay with them.

Here's the thing. The coin that the guy listed is larger in both size and weight, so they aren't the same. Another thing is that things like this you should contact me about cause I take care of it as soon as you ask, unless it's like 5 in the morning. Or if it's from 8 to 3, then no way, Jose until I get home.

Just to add my 2 cents (to this 1 cent coin), here is an example where I'd rather see no picture at all... (as I've already mentioned on one of other threads)

Smart One,
I agree that there are some "trust" issues on Numista. However, I believe that is also combined with some members being too sensitive and taking things out of context. Some members misinterpret what one member is trying to say and then he makes statements which can be hurtful. Sometimes it is best to give the other guy the benefit of the doubt before casting judgements that go too deep.
