Hello,

As previously announced in https://en.numista.com/forum/topic144308.html, we plan to offer a unified access to all numismatic objects, which are currently separated in the three categories Coins, Banknotes and Exonumia. Good progress has been made in that forum thread about defining the new object types and sub-types.

In the meantime, we also worked on building the unified search form, and we are ready to share a mockup.
You can try it at https://en.numista.com/catalogue/index2.php

This page is intended to replace the three existing pages to search for coins, for banknotes and for exonumia.

Please note that this is a mockup only: it's intended to show the functionality but it's not intended to be fully functional. Also, it still relies on the current object types, not the new types discussed in the forum thread mentioned above.

All feedback about this new search form are welcome!

For feedback specifically about the definition of types and subtypes, please rather use the forum thread mentioned above.

Thank you, that is a good looking prototype.

Will the length field also cover diameter? Would “Length/Diameter” be a better field descriptor?

In the current Coin search there is a ? for diameter which mentions ranges. That should be on the new form. (And probably should have been on the Length and Width fields in the current Banknote page as ranges work.)

It would also be useful to add a ?  to Design to explain what fields it covers. I'm hesitant to disrupt the whole field scheme, but Design and Lettering seem similar (searching a subset of the fields) so it would seem to make sense to place them near each other.

With the current Coin search the Coin Types filter is sticky. If you search for just patterns and then create a new tab with the coin page the Coin Types field is set to Pattern.

  • What will be sticky in the new search page?

Hi Xavier,

I also think it's a good mock-up and I'm looking forward to using it with the new categories!

Here's some feedback:

1) When you open the drop-down menu to see the different coins categories, I'd find it more intuitive to add an arrow to close it, rather than having to click next to it.

2) As you're going to be doing a major sorting of categories, wouldn't this be a good opportunity to remove the old currency that served as categories in the old exonumia classification system?

3) For the frames with the categories, I think it would be good to insert a title before each category change.

Coins :

Banknotes :

Tokens :

  • Automatic tokens

4) I'd also like the frame to be a bit longer so that you can see more categories at the same time.

Current : max-height: 8em
Suggestion : max-height: 12em

5) How will the current page listing all types of exonumia fit into the new search?

Regards,

Basteros

Unus pro omnibus, omnes pro uno

I absolutely do not like alphabet order of sub-issuers where ⅔ of them have only rarely-useful fantasy tokens.

As an example:

I beleive it may be re-elaborated based on time period and amount of coins and notes.

Also is shall be a possibility to hide issuers that e.g. haven't issued coins if you want to filter out all but coins

My personal list of scammers from Numista: erniemix, yvain, CassTaylor

I am a little surprised by what is under “Fantasy Places”.

Several of them are real countries or organized groups of people; for example, Donbas and the Donetsk Republic are real, also if recognized by a truly small number of other countries. Similary, the Cherokee tribes were really existing.

I see that the entities related to them are only exonumia items, precisely fantasy items.

It seems that to issue a fantasy item, you must be a fantasy organization.

IMHO, first of all we should investigate who really produced these fantasy items. Then, if they are really produced by self-proclaimed independent states, such states should be added to the list of those with limited recognition. If they are produced by some company, maybe it is better to skip the issuer.

There is a bug on index2 search results page. When I want to go to page 2 for more results found, this redirect me to current index page 2.

You note that…

Wanted & swap list (euro coins & world coins, exonumia and banknotes circulated) https://goo.gl/AQjfKp - I have euro & world CC coins for swap.

Just a few notes on exonumia Fantasy issuers:

Exonumia did not have its own “country list”, so issuer placement was rather “relaxed”. It is only now that it hits us back in this unified view. We will review placement of these fantasy issuers.

Will the users still be able to see which countries have issued coins?

This information is very valuable.

This is great!

That is amazing. Will save a lot of time searching the database.
