It started a thread whether we like such a gimmick on coins. What's your idea?

I'm not great fan, to be honnest. It's surely a surprise once you get the gimmick for the first time, but after that, it's like an old joke retold.

I really like the overall shield design it's a really cool gimmick, but my goodness does it make each individual coin ugly as sin, I hate them on their own! finally getting the new designs slowly and those look very nice to me.

Thats actually totally cool , did not know that. 

I agree that on their own, not very nice. The new coins look amazing.

I honestly wonder what they were thinking when they originally approved this - not only do they look weird individually , but the 20 pence is literally one of the lion's butt . 

The new designs are far better , but from what I have learned about their mintage figures , it will probably  be a number of years before they become common in circulation .
