I have a single Roman coin, which might be this particular one which is missing photos on Numista. It is clearly a denarius from emperor Nerva, with the “Simpulum, sprinkler, ewer and lituus” image on the reverse. There are 12 coins on Numista with this combination, but 5 of those are gold and this one is silver. Of the remaining seven, only one has the text “COS” on the obverse (the others have it on the reverse).

Part of what is confusing is I would swear my coin  has “COS II P” on the obverse and according to the description for this listing it should be “COS III P”

The coin has a decent amount of tarnish on it, so even ignoring wear it is not all clear. I wanted to post the images here first, to get an opinion on whether this is even the correct coin (and if not, if anyone can identify the correct listing) as well as any suggestions for improving the scans.

I blew up the corner of the obverse with the COS text on it and played with the brightness and contrast a bit. The last part of the three straight lines after COS appears to be a P to me (making this COS II P) rather than another I (for COS III). There is no coin listed in Numista (that I could find) for the emperor Nerva with COS II P on the front and the sacrificial tool set on the obverse.

Doesn't the third “I” have a loop on the top making it into a P? (specifically look at the enlarged image). And strictly speaking, according to the text description of this particular coin, there are supposed to be 2 P's, which would make this “COS II P P” (or “COS III P P” if there is an extra character I'm not seeing).

I'd love for it to be the “III” version, but just want to be as certain as I can be.

Hello, now I had a little more patience to research better. According to ID#ric.2.ner.139 the caption for the verse with the bust is:

IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M TR P COS III P P

What it means in Latin:

Imperator Nerva Caesar Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate, Consul Tertium, Pater Patriae.

And in english:
Supreme commander (Imperator) Nerva, Caesar, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power, consul for the third time, father of the nation.

The part with "COS III" refers to how many times he was a consul. So, yours contains II, it makes sense in the order, redering the second time. However, we have another problem. According to the source:

https://numismatics.org/ocre/id/ric.2.ner.139

The coin for “COS III” It's catalogued, but there are no photos or anything like that. Due to the wear and tear, it's hard to be sure. I researched it, and saw that other examples with "COS III P P" but on other reverses, the second P is very close to the bust like the examples below.

And also, it exists the Denarius version with “COS II P P”

I scanned a bunch using my phone too, but the edges kept curling or getting cut off. What worked better for me was laying them flat under glass and snapping pics with daylight coming from the side. Then I uploaded everything to a digital picture frame that flips through them, so I don’t have to dig through boxes every time I wanna look at them or show a friend.
