Hello everyone,
I’m trying to identify a German token I own, which seems to date from around 1800 and was likely produced in or around Nürnberg.
🧩 Description of the token:
Obverse: A horse in gallop, possibly with soldiers or symbols around it
Inscription: FRISCH MIT GEWALT
Reverse: Soldiers with flags, cannons, or symbols
Inscription: DER FRIED KOMMT BALD (possibly a peace token)
Material: Looks like brass
Diameter: About 21–23 mm
There is a 5 mm space between soldiers' heads on one side
The soldiers’ arms point inward, not toward the edge (they may be holding something together)
❓ Request:
Could someone who has access to the Peter Menzel catalog (preferably the version with images) please:
Confirm if this token is listed there
Provide the Menzel number and any extra info (variations, year, context, etc.)
I only have the text-only PDF of the catalog and I can’t identify the token without illustrations.
Thanks in advance for any help — your expertise is much appreciated!
