For those of us living in parts of the world where hockey is not our religion and way of life, and don't have a library of Charlton references,

a little better explanation of these limited issue commems would be appreciated.  Perhaps one of our Canadian members could add a paragraph in the comments section for these 2 1997 coins ?  And photos would be great too.  Just a thought ………

Oh, and maybe for the 2 2001 ANA and CNA coins also ?

I'm not Canadian nor the hockey fan. I'm just Queen Elizabeth II coins collector.

Regarding this coin, it seems that all three yearlines should be merged. This is exactly the same coin but only issued in different sets: the standard silver proof, the ANA version of set and the CNA version. These two are special issues with signatures of two hockeists, one also with stapms and photo, see links.

Unfortunatelly,  Canada section is full of the sets info put into the coin yearlines. Now, with the ability to create the sets, it should be all moved to sets and the yearlines should be merged unless the coins are really different, even slightly (year, finish, marks etc).

I didn't do the research but suppose that 2001 issues for ANA and CNA are similar case like 1997.

On the other hand, this coin page include yearline 1996 piedorf (normally piedorf should be double thickness so probably another coin page with mass x2 should be created) and it include also 1998 "O" version which is not silver with gold plating but is bimmetalic coin: solid gold center 22ct and silver outer ring. This is another composition so should be cut-out from this page and moved to separate page, I think.

Update: 1998 “O” coin could be something other (I'm not specialist in Canadian variants). The photos assigned to this yearline is wrong. It refers to 1996 bimmetalic gold/silver (or gold .916 & gold .172) coin listed already here. Three past sales auction all refers to this 1996 coin and should be moved to that page too.

That sounds like a lot of work.  Good luck.

I'm just a poor coin collector, and I don't really care about hockey; this is about coins, not sports, so why extend our hobby into nonsense, as being done with Canadian coins ?

Only R.C.M. knows ……..  But if Numista wants to showcase its reputation for accuracy, these listings should be clear and factual.  Sports preferences notwithstanding …..

The problem is not about hockey or sport. This is just coincidence because these 2$ polar bear coins were together in set with the hockey commemorative 1$. And RCM issued three different version of sets, all with the same coins.

Similar is for many other sets. And before Numista allowed to add sets, the users or the previous referee for Canada added sets info to the coin page as a separate yearlines. Now, with the new sets section, this should be all moved to this section and cleared on coin pages.

Huge work ahead. A lot of users complaining about current setup (they have right) but probably much less volounteers who want and can to correct it.

Don't hold your breath for this being straightened out anytime soon.
