Any idea what reference has the names for such designs (or design elements?) I've been through this kind of question over a paper money concern before and found plenty of guesses that should all have been good enough said, but only one that “struck oil" on the classic references that might have hearkened back to hundreds of years of tradition. That discussion answered the short list I was after, but only for one country in one case. Did someone ever write this book that ought to have been?
