Hello everyone,
I am contacting you to try to catalog this piece. From what I have observed, I think I can make out a countermark (resello) with the Roman numeral VIII under a crown, which leads me to think it is a re-coining from the time of Philip IV. However, the wear on the piece is considerable and I find it difficult to confirm if the host coin is an earlier 4 or 8 maravedis.
I also seem to guess some remains of the mint mark under the countermark strikes, but I don't dare to say for sure which one it is. Could you take a look at the photos and give me your opinion or any information that might be useful?
Any comments to help me identify it better will be greatly appreciated. Best regards!
