Hello,

 

this is what pilgrims had back in the days to mount on their clothes or walking canes. How is this a medal and not a token?

Token - Rigid pieces of material which can be redeemed or used for something under some limited conditions.

Medal - Rigid pieces of material that have no direct utility. The purpose is generally a reward, a souvenir or beauty.
