Just got 3 feet (yes, feet) of fresh snow today - and I thought winter was just about over - ugh!
Anyway, the coin in question is this one:
The 1878 dated coin in this series was minted in Bordeaux, France and has the “K” mintmark.
As such, it also has the Engraver-General's privy mark (anchor without bar) and the Mint Director's privy mark (a cross with the ends of the arms as points or arrowheads); not sure what the correct name is for this symbol, so I will stick with “cross”. The photo of the 1878-K coin in the valuation table clearly shows what this privy mark looks like.
The Numista webpage for this coin series lists all of the possible privy marks for the coins in the series except for this “cross”. It is missing from the “Marks” section (where the other privy marks are listed and identified) and also in the valuation table for the 1878-K coin.
Since my computer skills are very poor, I don't know how to get the “cross” privy mark added to this page. If it could be added by someone who knows how to do it, that would be great.
One other question concerning this coin (and several other Greek coins from the 1800s): The SCWC lists the alloy for these coins as “copper”, but Numista lists the alloy as “bronze.” Is this one of the many SCWC errors that has been corrected in the Numista catalog?
