Hello,
I have both versions of this coin N#1753
But they are displayed like this ("not for swap only" view):
Is this a bug or working as intended, although providing wrong info by not showing the KM# 104.2?

It's a bug for that layout.
I don't know if you can call it a bug. If you don't select list but gallery you can only select gallery by type. And since both coins are under the same coin page and considered being the same type it's logic only one picture shows up. Apparently subtypes are ignored.
What I don't understand is why OP has two pictures of the same type? I also have both varieties but I only have one picture:
No you can select more.
As only the main example picture will be shown, unless you have added pictures of your coin, so this is not a bug.

No, it is a bug.
With Layout - List - 2 coins, two different KM numbers:

With Layout - Gallery by type - 2 coins of the SAME KM number:

With Layout - Gallery - two DIFFERENT coins but the same KM number:

How is the different behavior not a software bug? Why should it treat KM104.2 as if it were KM 104.1? I have one KM 104.1 and one KM104.2 and Numista tells me I have two KM104.1 in two of the Layouts but one of each in the third layout.

Because you're using Gallery by type and the OP is using Gallery.
Ah okay I thought the pictures where meant no the references.
With the references being correctly entered into the year lines of the catalog page it should definitely be able to be displayed correctly indeed.

Probably because I use the legacy display.
What's that?
Got it. Yes, that's a vintage setting you veterans can have 😄
