Anybody who can help me with this item? It looks like a cheque based on the words I can make out and understand. Pretty sure out of scope of Numista, but was too cool for me to pass up on it …

Stamp:

“finance expeditionens chartae stempel” seems to be proof of payment of some tax on financial transactions (in this case 12 kop.) [www.doria.fi/bitstream/handle/10024/167651/TSH007_opt.pdf]

Text partially cursive, partially printed:

Braheghad, den 28 Januari 18 50      R.S. 238- 85 kp.

a tio dagars dato behagade H. Hemot denna min Lola

Wekele utbetala till Herr Esaias Fellman. eller Ordres.

Tvåhundrade trettio åttas Rub. åttiefems kp. Lupuen _____________

Valuta i Rakning med E. F. och stålles i Råkning . . _ ______ enligt advis.

Herr A. Boman Uleåborg   Sven Andersson

Seems to order a payment to be made by H. Hemot to Mr. Esaia Fellman, signed by Mr. Boman from Oulu (so in Finland, which explains the currency in rouble and the text in Swedish as it was then a Grand Duchy within the Russian Empire !) and Mr. Andersson
Some words seem not to be transcribed correctly, as google translate messes up at least half 😉

On the reverse there are additional text, that I can hardly make out. Just recognising A. Bloman, some value and the signature of E. Fellmann. This is probably the statement by Fellmann that he received the money (in two part … 30 (?) Januari 1850 and 14 February 1850). Help in correctly transcribing the text is welcome.

No new swaps for the moment, still too many half-ongoing swaps to clean up!

Maybe I can call in some of our active Swedes to help me out here, as I don't know how often they venture into this part of the forum 🙃 … @ngdawa @Marc16 @Terrazone

This is not a banknote persay its closer to stamp related its like effectively a receit between 2 entities this one talks about someone being paid roughly 240ish roubles for work

In finalnd swedish was the administrative language for a long while and as such alot of formal stuff was just in swedish

(The name of these eludes me temporarly)

The backside talks about 2 payment of roubles in silver being made in 1850 the rest looks to cover the remaining but im having a hard time reading some of it

First bit is 120 roubles in silver being paid

The second is 118.85 roubles being paid in paper and coins

These types of “notes” are considered part of stamp collecting in sweden i cannot 100% say the same for finland but i assume such

I can make an attempt at this, but I’m not very good with old swedish so we’ll see.

:)

The first word is probably the place where the document was written. At least that is the usual format Place, Date.

“Or to order” is a clause specifying that the person entitled to receive a sum of money or other asset may be someone to whom the original beneficiary has transferred their right, e.g., “Per Olsen or to order.” A promissory note containing a “to order” clause is a negotiable document. SOURCE

Usually the transfer to another receiver should be documented on the backside.

Its not lola its Oulo the place im fairly certain or i read it as such.

As for Lupuen i first tought it said (Kp) Kopeks Kupfer (copper) now im unsure if its some finnish word

Backside as i read it says the following

Betalning af Herr A Bloman etthundratjugo rubel silfer dem kvitterats den uleåborg den 30 januari 1850 B Fellman

Payment of Mister A Bloman onehundredandtwenty rouble silver has been delivered on the 30th of january 1850 signed Fellman in Uleåborg (i think thats how the place is spelled atleast)

Betalning af Herr A Bloman etthundraarton rubel 85 kopeks silfer dem kvitterats uleåborg den 14 februari  år 1850 B Fellman

Payment of Mister A Bloman

Onehundredandeighteenrouble and 85 kopeks in silver has been delivered om the 14th of february 1850 signed Fellman Uleåborg

Notes

It says “Dem Kvitteras” it doesnt direct translate to has been delivered more like “they have been squared of this amount" but in essence its to confer payment
