Can't seem to find anything with this same building on it. Doesn't look like a mosque to me. Is it a palace? Coin is 1 inch across. I think the year is 1997, but the 7 is facing the opposite way to a western 7. There is a second number, 1317, but the 3 and 7 are both facing to the right. Thank you!

Makes sense that if you got it in change it would have been from when you were in Sudan. The two countries are fairly close. When were you in Sudan. I would love to visit but I think the situation is a little too tense for me right now.
It was more tense when I was there. But I was in Khartoum, so not very close to where the fighting was at that time. At least now the US embassy is up and running. I was there after we evac'd. It was certainly no holiday. Think it was 2005. I lived with our equipment so I couldn't go anywhere for 4 months. Good ol Browntown.

Personally, I was maintaining a peer to peer network and taking care of various other technical duties. As for the mission, I don't even know as I didn't get involved with that. Need to know basis and I didn't.
