Cruzeiro Real - The earliest monetary standard

Was soon monetary standard in Brazilian history, with only 11 months in duration. Since 1986, was the constant bartering currency units due to uncontrollable inflationary outbreaks that weakened the national money. The Presidents José Sarney and Fernando Collor failed, both in an attempt to curb inflation. Worse for Collor, who resigned on the eve of suffering impeachment and said goodbye to the presidency. In its place, assumed the vice Itamar Franco. More than inflation, the country was experiencing a recessionary crisis with falling GDP.
This was Brazil who passed into the hands of Itamar. Politically, the Brazilians went to the polls in April 1993 to define the system and the system they wanted. The votes counted, both the republic as presidentialism won. In economics, Franco reversed the situation of GDP, which grew again. But inflation persisted. Other monetary adjustment was needed. The coin cruzeiro again lost three zeros when the actual cruzeiro was instituted. The new unit was effective from 1st. August 1993 to June 30, 1994, precise eleven months.

Monetary standard: Cruzeiro Real (Royal Cruise)
Symbol: CR$
ISO 4217 code: BRR
Validity: 08/01/1993 to 06/30/1994
Circulation coins: 09/20/1993 to 09/15/1994
Previous pattern: Cruzeiro (Cr$)
Subsequent default: Real (R$)

Quick and ineffective, the actual cruzeiro was equivalent to thousand cruzeiros. Provisional Measure No. 336 of 07/28/1993 (DOU, 07.29.93), converted into Law No. 8,697, of 08/27/1993 (DOU, 08.28.93), instituted the CRUZERO REAL, the from 08/01/1993 to replace the cruise, equivalent to a real one thousand cruzeiros cruzeiros with maintaining the penny. Resolution No. 2,010, of 07/28/1993, the National Monetary Council, governs the change in the monetary system unit. In the wake of another inflationary explosion, the provisional measure 434, of 02/17/1994, established the Unit of Real Value (URV), a kind of parallel currency with no exchange value, which was readjusted every day and aimed to prepare a new currency.

Environmental Issues

The cruzeiro gave real impetus to environmental issues, to launch four currencies stainless steel stamped Brazilian fauna. The priority was to endangered species: maned wolf (CR$100), jaguar (CR$ 50), anteater (CR$ 10) and macaw (CR$ 5). Circulated 09/20/1993 to 09/15/1994, when they were replaced by coins collected and the real.

The Maned Wolf (Chrysocyon brachyurus) is among the animals that suffer serious risk of extinction within our fauna. This is due to their long, thin legs. Coins of stainless steel, 24 mm in diameter, manufactured in 1993 and 1994.

CR$50, jaguar

Because it is such a unique animal, the jaguar, Panthera onca, or, is one of the species with the highest rate of smuggling. Besides this, poaching, pollution / poisoning of rivers and destruction of its habitat also contribute to their extinction. Currencies stainless steel, 23 mm diameter, produced in 1993 and 1994.

CR$10 anteater

Nice to read it, thanks for the info! Although not interested particularly in animal coins, I like this series, because it is inflationary coinage. I am missing only the CR$100  Lobo Guara.

Nice article and goes more in-depth than what I wrote about Brazilian currency and coins 2 years ago.

I Have the 5 Reais https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5393.html only the first year, and the 10 Reais both years https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces5394.html

This 10 Reais remember me my first trip to the Amazonas as one of this anteater crossed the road while we were driving around 100 km/h... It was really scary that moment.

If any one is willing to help me to complete this set, lets make a swap!
