we have a 1835 coin with the front that looks like a 1835 8 maravedis, but the back clearly looks like a 1837 4 reales. any ideas?

Please add pictures of both sides of the coin in addition to data on weight, diameter and metal

Just fill out all the details of your coin on the page on the above link. If you can take good pictures of both sides of your coin then add them on there as well, like radrick007 mentioned; those pictures I showed cannot be used due to copyright. I do not know what the KM# number is, but one of the Admin. team will have a catalogue and could add that when verifying, I guess. Welcome to the site as well.

Has your coin got the mint mark "CR" or "DR" at the bottom of the reverse?
If it has "CR" it's probably:
KM# 510.1 - 4 Reales - 1835 CR
VG: $20 F: $35 VF: $70 XF: $150
If it has "DR" it's probably:
KM#510.2 - 4 Reales - 1835 DR
VG: $20 F: $35 VF: $100 XF: $200
Either way, looks like you have a very nice coin!

I agree with charliebest, it looks like a lovely coin. Perhaps you can post the link here when you have added your coin to the catalog.
