First I generally only collect circulating coins. But I am redoing my collection and working on Bulgaria. I have always been fascinated with their coins, stamps, and notes. From Bulgaria. It seems to be one of those country's that people under collect. In swap lists people have none, or just a few. And finding them is somewhat hard. I do not buy from E-bay, so only can get from other coin collectors, or coin stores. I have had some great swaps from Bulgaria. I was just wanting your thoughts on this, and do you think it is under collected.
Still working on my Bulgaria. But have 44 types, 64 coins, and 4 bank notes.
thank you yours daryl
It is, what it is, or is it.
I only have two coins from there, in my collection >

Thank you ZacUK you are very kind. Iam still pulling them all together right now. I have 6 coins from the fist Lev. And like them very much. The only one I know I need is the new 2 Lev from 2015. Will look after iam done. But think the cost of postage would be to high.

Doesn't matter about postage - all free for allred1950 !

Hi Daryl,

I have 20+ Bulgarian coins for swap....Let me know if you find any you need.

I've 16 types in my collection. I used to live in Russia, so all coins from the neighboring countries were quite easy to find. 15 of them are from the 1945-1990 (socialist) period, plus 1 more from 1930 that I got a year or two ago. Bulgarian circulation coinage designs are very reminiscent of USSR's, so they often get confused. I like the earlier designs from the kingdom period a lot more and hope to find more of them in better grades in the future, but my focus is currently elsewhere.

I own 53 circulating types from Bulgaria, and recently wrote the WCC topic for this country:

It's indeed a nice country to collect coins from, as they are pretty affordable for a nice piece of history.
And we are still searching for Bulgarian referee that can read and understand the language! <:D

Hi Daryl, I have 25 types in my collection plus some swaps but I am not particularly attached to any of them. Please feel free to take a look at my collection and although they are probably all fairly common, if there is anything there that you need let me know, I'm sure we can work something out :)
Just because you can't see it ... doesn't mean it isn't there - Anon.

I've only got 19 coins from Bulgaria!

But as I'm going there for two weeks on Saturday, I expect that number to rise rapidly B)

Taking a break from swapping for a while, but still interested in pre 1799 Spanish coins, I will make time for that!

Looking for pre 1783 coins
I got a couple of nice early 1 lev coins is a swap recently. I think it was 1894 and 1910
I like pre-socialist Bulgarian coins, and it certainly didn't hurt that I happened to visit Bulgaria in 2014 - bought a lot of their coins there!
Still buying some old Bulgarian coins when I see any cheap-ish ones that I didn't have already; just got a nice (okay, any of that very uncommon type is nice) aluminium 1 lev 1923 recently.

I tried to get a reasonably full type set of circulating coins back when I was there, was also surprised that there wasn't anything dated after 2002.
They've made a new 2 leva coin since, apparently (can't recall having ever seen that one yet, not even a picture).

Not very interested in their socialist coins, but it sounds like a nice set to have, so I might try it some day.

15 coins from Bulgaria listed in my Numista collection, incidentally. (It's Romania that I'm working on the type set for.)
Oh may thumbs, just finished B. I have the letters A and B done. Starting C. Thank you all for the help, and offering coins. ZacUK there is only 1 coin I need and postage is to much, thank you . Rick have all for them ,thank you. Muygrandeoso there are a few will PM you.
Iam going though my collection and swap list, what a big mess. I can not find any of my coins from swap list for Chile.

Yes, indeed. ZacUK has shown me a great deal of kindness over the years and I'm always going to be in his debt for the considerable help he has given me in tracking down obscurities from the UK.
Non illegitimis carborundum est.  Excellent advice for all coins.

Yes ZacUK a good coin. Always kind and helpful.

I have been going back and forth on this thread on whether to post or not as Bulgaria is one of my main collecting areas. However, I don't collect the modern stuff :x, but I decided to give it a whirl and see where it goes. Here are a few coins from the Second Bulgarian Empire that was established with the crowning of Peter IV of Bulgaria as Emperor of Bulgaria in 1185 until the Ottoman Turks conquered Bulgaria in 1396. Let's see if there are any interest on medieval coinage from this area...

Bulgaria: Todor Svetoslav (1300–1322) Æ Trachy (Youroukova & Penchev-55)

Obv: Large cross; annulets at each point
Rev: Todor Svetoslav facing on horseback right, holding cross-tipped scepter; left legend - ΘЄO; right legend – цр

Bulgaria: Konstantin I Asen (1257-1277) Æ Trachy (Raduchev & Zhekov 1.4.11)

Obv: Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator; IC XC across field
Rev: Konstantin I facing on horseback right, holding patriarchal cross

Bulgaria: Ivan Aleksandar (1331–1371) Æ Trachy (Youroukova & Penchev-105var)

Obv: Cross set on acanthus base; IC XC in upper quarters; triple pellets above each of the leaves
Rev: Imperial double-headed eagle facing, with wings displayed

;) Too much interest, too few money to spend....

BTW, we do not have those in catalogue :°

I've got 56 types in my collection and about 20 doubles. Have a look at my swap list. If you are interested in some, just send me your address and will be a pleasure to send to you.
Thank you Zimpeto ,But have all the ones in your swap list . Once I get my swap list clean up maybe we can have a swap

Unfortunately I've 8 coins from Bulgaria only. Half of them are still on use coins given by Bulgarian friends. But my oldest one is a 10 Stotinki 1881 Aleksandr I, which seemed similar to LMU standards.

Hah - I didn't bother checking beforehand, but the currently circulating coins in Bulgaria are all one-year issues, so I didn't come home with a lot. I did manage to get XF examples of all the denominations though, so at least I came home with something :)
I have 29 coins from Bulgaria, 1912-2002.

I wonder if the current series of coins was produced in one big batch at the time, or if they are still being struck with frozen dates in the same manner as certain coins from Lithuania or Thailand.
