Citation: "brismike"I do like the Olympic coins but I do agree with you that what I’ve seen Australia takes it too far like why did they mint the same coin but with a different colour ring on it? I understand the list of the different types of sport in the Olympics or a handover coin but that is too far. But I doubt that they would change their actions and mint hundreds of 95% of the same coin.

In doing an occasional search on Westminster Collection website, to see if there are
any ‘£5 coin for just £5’ offers that they do which I may have missed - and there is one …
https://www.westminstercollection.com/p-551P/2021-Queen-Elizabeth-II-95-Birthday-Jersey-5-Pound.aspx
and that coin (Jersey 2021 Queen Elizabeth 95th birthday) has a page on here …
No idea what date last year that offer started, but it is still current so I ordered mine now.
Wow, that's great! I wonder if the US mints do anything like that.
Bailiwick of Jersey - I feel like I need to apologize for being so American… I knew Jersey was a Channel Island but I didn't know, until I just did some googling, about its independent status. In fact I'm still a little confused about the association with the UK, it seems complicated. And I only knew “bailiwick” in the presumably derived and American usage meaning “area of expertise” (so for example, world geography is not in my bailiwick).
Back to the coin, I understand now that they have their own currency, so that this is 5 Jersey pounds. Is the exchange rate fixed at 1-1 with the pound sterling? (Tell me I didn't get some nomenclature wrong there too!) I do like the look of the coin.

Ah, I meant, does the US Mint sell anything for face value.

Misunderstood. Yes, I was surprised at the premium over face even for bulk coins. Is there any real expectation of finding something so special that you would do this?
Gives “making money” a double meaning for them.
Yesterday the BBC (on radio and television) made an announcement about themselves.
As this year they are 100 years old the Royal Mint has made a commemorative 50 Pence coin.
It was already in planning and production recently so still has Elizabeth portrait.

Saturday May 6th 2023
That is when King Charles III will be in Westminster Abbey for the Coronation.
Just announced on the 6 o'clock BBC television news.
Bummer, the BBC coin is more to ship than it is to buy. 🥲

Both the Channel Islands & the Isle of Man are Crown Dependencies - which means that King Charles III is viceregally represented by Lieutenant-Governors.
Laws passed in Westminster cannot have effect unless any one or all of the Crown Dependencies are specifically named in the legislation.
In all other respects, the local legislatures can pass legislation independently that apply only within the Crown Dependency where the legislation was passed.
In the Isle of Man, Acts of Tynwald that have been passed & given Royal Assent by the Lieutenant-Governor has to be promulgated in a ceremony on Tynwald Day. Any Act of Tynwald that is not promulgated within 18 months of being passed ceases to have effect.
Have a read here;

I didn't notice the clarification of this point anywhere on that showy website.
In general, Westminster ship only to UK. For international shipping, you need to go for their WestminsterInternational website which offer much less range of products.

I was picked to get one of these for just 50p (free p&p):
A week later I was picked again for this one:
Nothing for years then 2 come along at once 😁
A week or two ago I checked to see if there was going to be a 2022 Poppy coin, but found none.
As in their usual ‘£5 coin for £5’ offer. Will have to look again this week.
They had some for this year but not at £5 price.

2008 then 2011 to 2021 so far.
Reply received - there will be no 2022 £5 coin offer this year.

Only this one available for £4.99 with free postage.
I've found this today:
https://edition.cnn.com/style/article/gold-coin-newfoundland-archeological-discovery-scn/index.html
Remember that late 15th century coin found buried in Canada last year? This one is a little older.

By the way, that gold coin is already here: N#53973
From today's news:
An one-off plate-sized gold coin with diamonds was just unveiled:

Coin hoard found in Scotland:

This week a Dutch cent dated 1818 was auctioned for € 110,000, making it the most expensive Dutch cent to date.
The coin is shown and discussed in this news video (in Dutch, after the commercial):
https://www.ad.nl/video/productie/duurste-cent-ooit-geveild-in-nederland-409095
The man further informs us that the Dutch coins dated 1817 and 1818 were actually essays, which is not mentioned as such on the Numista pages.
It must be added that in those days, The Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg formed one country, so it's not just part of the Dutch numismatic history.
So, it will be Remembrance Day 2025 soon -
and I saw the 2022 Westminster Collection reply
https://en.numista.com/forum/topic6454-4.html#p1023214
and I listed the 2008 to 2021 (except 2009, 2010) £5 coins from Jersey
https://en.numista.com/forum/topic6454-4.html#p935849
so I guess 2023 and 2024 were also not issued in their '£5 for £5' yearly offer -
maybe, but unsure if I checked at those times.
I looked today to see if a 2025 offer £5 was also being made. No -
but, they are now making their first '£1 for £1' offer (plus £2.99 postage) >

All those were for the copper-nickel coins.
2024 - N#435051
but not sure if it was issued in a '£5 for £5' yearly offer.
Then missing are - 2009, 2010, 2022, 2023, 2025 - maybe.
They also minted silver or gold versions, some colourised.
The 2025 Pound - N#482606
Lastly, I think I am missing only these three >
2011 - N#82620
2017 - N#124247
2024 - N#435051
then excluding 2009, 2010, 2022, 2023 I nearly have them all.
So just now I bought 2011 and 2017 - and 2024 soon maybe.
‘2011 Jersey 5 Pounds coin poppy - 90th Anniversary edition coin cover - Only 5000’
‘Bailiwick of Jersey 2017 BUnc £5 poppy coin’
Then almost complete, awaiting 2024 >

The standard 2024 copper nickel remembrance 5 pounds from the Westminster Collection were not in a 5 pound for 5 pound offer however I did get an offer to buy that coin for around £20. It came in a presentation box with a poppy shaped commemorative non coin.
Ah, thanks - that answers my query.
Hope I remember in a year to look out if they make another Jersey £5 offer,
though it looks like the 100 year anniversary [2021] was the last.
Notice its deceptive advertising - they charge £2 postage and handling (The FV of this coin is £1) and sign you up for a porgramme of 4 coins totalling £90. Just bait advertising in my opinion and a 3rd party mint/company for a British island (Known for their excessive and wallpaper/bubblegum like issues of stamps and coins).
Plus its muckmetal - you guys may love it, but this is pure grannybait. Its a sentimental topic that appeals to emotions and a good way for these 3rd party companies to milk people's emotions for profit.
Used to be the case that it was a Guernsey or Jersey commemorative 5 pound coin offered for face value and free postage and you could buy as many as you liked too. Then it slowly went to 5 pound for 5 pound face value with postage on top with 9 quantities allowed then 3 quantities allowed or so. (For swappers it was a good deal getting these commemorative coins at face value from small islands that foreign collectors go mad for). And then since Queen Elizabeth II died RIP they've began experimenting with coins like this new poppy pound though theres usually other commemorative 5 pounds they offer during the year for face value with postage on top and only 1 per household allowed and some of the face value £5 are offered if you subscribe to a set. Still a good company to buy from though nonetheless.
Only just found this story from last year
http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/72148
‘Money bags found in leg of statue in German church’
Restorers working at St. Andrew’s Church in Eisleben in the
east-central German state of Saxony-Anhalt, discovered four bags
of coins from around 1640 in the cavity of the leg of a statue of a kneeling count.
Rather than their £5 for £5 offers they did in the past,
Westminster Collection are currently doing this 50p coin for 50p offer [£2.99 postage]
