Understanding what I am seeing
The following is not an inquiry on this coin. I am only using this coin as an example of the type of knowledge I am trying to learn.

Coin: Venezuela, 1989 1 Bolivar
I think I understand e-Bay. Just because somebody paid X for a coin it dosen’t mean that is what others will pay. Here is what somebody paid: $3.94
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=m570.l1313&_nkw=Venezuela+1989+1+Bolivar&_sacat=256&LH_TitleDesc=0&_osacat=256&_odkw=x&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1

Here is what NGC says it is worth: $.20
https://www.ngccoin.com/price-guide/world/search/1/?country=VENEZUELA&region=All+Regions&denom=Bolivar&date=1989&catalogInitials=&catalogNumber=
The part I am not understanding is NGC list two varieties: 1989 (W) and a 1989 (SC).

Mine has neither. At least I can’t find any.
Is the (W) and (SC) from different mints? (W) has 370,000,000 minted. (SC) list 600,000,000 minted.

Ucoin says it’s worth $.42 https://en.ucoin.net/catalog/?country=venezuela&value=1.000&year=1989
And doesn’t list a (W) or (SC) am I right in assuming that (W) or (SC) are not mint designation but something in NGC own catalog? And list 970,000,000 minted. I must be mis-understanding something.

ALSO: Since Ucoin and NGC are always way below what they have sold for on e-Bay, am I right in assuming that is a wholesale price that big dealers will pay.

Always give the link to the coin page you're talking about, that's much easier for us. So in this case: https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces2973.html

When you open the coinpage your answer is right there. The 1989 coin is struck at two different mints: Werdohl (W) and Schwerte (SC). You say your coin has neither, but that's not correct. You're probably looking for mint letters W or SC and you can't find them. Mint letters between parenthesis mean there are no real mint letters on the coin. Mostly there are other features do determine at which mint the coins are struck. In this case the most easy way to determine is looking at the corns. Werdohl mint coins have one corn hanging from left of shield, Schwerte mint coins have three loose corns falling from left of shield.
This kind of information you usually can find in the comment sector at the coin page.

Prices on eBay are often very high. This particular coin you can easily find here on coin fairs for 0.50 € or less.

Thanks for answering. I have learned many years ago if you don’t know something, just asked. I probably would have googled my fingers off and not found what the brackets were for.
Again, I am just learning so please be patient with me, but it seems to me I not only sent you a link to the coin I used for an example but sent 3 links. Am I mistaken?
Next, I can’t find any corn on my coin to the left of shield, only Wheat.
At this point I am not buying any coins, let alone this one. (I have one) I am just trying to determine what I have, and what things on them mean, and what they are worth. From what you just said however, if I did want to sell I would get the best price on e-bay, is that correct?
I had forgotten to add the documentation to numista....

Here it is:

You probably wouldn't get the best price. To sell a coin on eBay you need:
  • A buyer who is interested in your coin type and can find your listing. (You need a good, accurate title for the auction.)
  • A coin in the condition a buyer wants (or better).
  • Good pictures.
  • To offer a price lower than the price of other listed coins of that condition, and much lower than the price of any coins in better condition.

The auction you linked to cost $4.50 (price plus shipping). If you offered your coin for $4.00 and I had the choice of the $4.50 auction and your $4.00 auction I would choose the other auction as the coin looks better than your coin. But more likely wouldn't choose either and wait for a better deal (either a better coin or a less expensive price).
