There a text without translation label. The field “Periodical” in the main page https://en.numista.com/literature/index.php has the text “No results found” always in English. The translation label exists (select2>no_match) but it is not used here.
I would like to know how or if it is possible to move the reference from a specific year edition to the catalog group? Like it is done for the KM catalogs (LINK).
Right now all JNDA# are listed under the 2024 edition (LINK) that was modified every year to keep it up-to-date, of the JNDA catalog (LINK).
If we would add previous editions to the different KM catalogs would thy be listed in 'sub folders' or all be listed like they are on the JNDA group and mess things up?

'Topic of the volume' is now also available, for issues that have many editions but are nearly the same just updated could there be an option to take over edits for all books of a group?
We added the possibility to add and see the topic of the book (associate an issuer, ruler, mint or coin). Further integration will come later: search by topic, links to the related books on the mint page, etc.
Reference
Reference catalogues are either books (generally the latest edition, unless there was a change in numbering), a book series (for example, the Standard Catalog of World Coins, which is made of multiple volumes), an article or a series of articles.
You can open a ticket on the forum to add or modify a catalogue code.
Sub-folder structure
It's possible to create groups of volumes and groups of groups. So indeed we could have a “sub-folder” structure for the Standard Catalog of World Coins (KM).
PDFs
We don't host the PDFs directly for the moment. However we already use the possibility to provide a link where books can be downloaded or read online legally.
I am absolutely thrilled with the introduction of the literature section! When I saw it just now, it felt like a dream come true! I hope to contribute with many entries whenever possible. I’d like to suggest, if feasible, including at least the cover of each book (I believe just the book cover image wouldn’t violate copyright, but please correct me if I’m wrong). I also thought about the possibility of including the table of contents for each book (when available), but that might cause issues, right? Hugs to everyone, and count on me for this section!

If it doesn't strain the cyclical update system to much I think using information from the catalog pages that use a reference could be used to fill out that information, at least for reference books we already have in the database. But I don't know how the issuer and ruler field of general catalogs like KM will look like with hundreds or thousands of entries😅.
How would the copyright system work? I understand we may get permission from some authors/publication houses but how about older books from now deceased authors because the laws on when they can be in the public domain varies by country.
All of Europe, Western Africa, Australia, Indonesia, parts of the Americas with the exception of Belarus the copyright is the life of the author plus an extra 70 years. The rest of Africa, most of Asia the Middle East, Belarus and New Zealand it’s only 50 years. Furthermore there are expecting cases such as Mexico where it’s 100 years, India where it’s 60, Colombia where it’s 80 and Somalia where it’s 30 years only.
Hi to whoever is reading this. Did you know that TYPEWRITER (on a QWERTY keyboard) is the longest word you can type using only the letters on one row of the keyboard.
What language is expected the text in the fields “Title translation” and “Subtitle translation” of the “Add or modify data” page?
I visited this page in different languages (English, French and Spanish) and the name of these fields in the source code was always referring to the English (title_en, subtitle_en).
Is the translation always expected to be in English? In this case, perhaps should be added the language. For example:
(EN) Title translation (in English) (FR) Traduction du titre (en anglais) (ES) Traducción del título (en inglés)
Is there an error and the translation must be in the interface language? In this case, I think the language should also be added, to avoid confusion. For example:
(EN) Title translation (in English) (FR) Traduction du titre (en français) (ES) Traducción del título (en español)

It's possible to add the picture of the cover. Feel free to make modification requests, like you would do for coins.
I'm not sure about adding the table of contents, but we'll soon have a field for description, where it will be possible to describe the content in more details.

Are you referring to copyright for the picture of the cover? If so, the policy is that we assume that the publisher consent, and we can remove it if there are any complaint.
The Literature Section of Numista aims to reference all printed publications of interest to numismatists and collectors of coins, banknotes, and exonumia.
Publications included must have an educational purpose or provide documentation value specifically within the field of numismatics (as defined here), such as numismatic academic journals, magazines for coin collectors, historical books with a strong focus on numismatics, museum collection catalogues and numismatic auction catalogues.
All printed formats are accepted, including books, journals, magazines, and articles.
However, works that only mention coins or banknotes without focusing on numismatics (for example, a general history book) or that lack educational or documentation value (for example, a novel featuring coins) are considered out of scope.

Not really, I was talking about the book as a whole. Of course it would be easier to ask permission from living authors or the publication house. My main point was about coin collecting books from the 1800s and pre 1950s where the author would be deceased in most cases. I’m just a little intrigued how Numista might deal with the copyright, for example the author died in the 1960s but because the author and his publications were in the UK his works don’t enter the public domain for another 10 or so years.
Would these PDF scanned books be viewable/ downloadable/printable to everyone who visits Numista regardless if they have an account?
I view it similarly to Kortext where people who have an account to access and download books for their own viewing.

Numista won't host anything other then the cover so copyright will not be an issue. There will only be links to supposedly freely available public domain books.
Also Numista is a French site with servers in Canada so only relevant laws would be French (EU) and maybe Canadian anyway.
Most Auction houses gave us permission to use their coin Images for Numista.
It makes sense that Most Auction houses will allow for Numista to Host there Auction Catalog (PDF) with price sheets as well.
Just got to ask the Auction Houses for additional permissions. I am even willing to bet the Auction Houses will provide the reference material for free.

Excuse my ignorance, it may have already been written here. But in the literature section I don't see the “Add it yourself” option.. If it is already possible to do so, where can I go to add books?
Can a link be included on the creation page to the approved literature? I shared a screen shot of a modification request to show what I am referring to.
There is an error with the information box (when you click on the question mark) on the modification page. This seems only to be a problem for the ‘Topic of the Volume’ information boxes. This pop-up seems to be regarding the ‘legal tender’ question for coin pages.
It would be nice to see if existing members have a book in their procession. So that a member may be able to contact them for detail information that may exist in the book.

With coins unpublished pages are restricted and most users can't view them. But I can see this page and it says “This page has not been published yet”. Is this intentional?

Pages of requests cannot be viewed, unpublished pages themselves can be viewed by anyone, provided they have a link, which is usually nowhere to be found.
Do you know of any source where numismatic content is freely available in EPUB format?
Past books will probably be in PDF format, but future books will be using EPUB format. EPUB format is the default format for E-Books when it comes to publishing platforms and online distribution.

Sorry, I missed the important part that Yumpu also offers download.
As the author Henry Cohen died 145 years ago, it's safe to say that the work is in the public domain, and can be uploaded on Numista.
Only original editions though; any modern reprint which would not be just photocopies of past edition would still be protected material (the layout and images etc, not the text itself as series of characters)
Wonderful addition to the site, I’m going to have fun searching for and adding my books to my collection!
One suggestion I would propose is adding the ability for all pieces under “Literature” to be added to one’s bookshelf. Atm, it seems like articles cannot be added. In my field of Sogdian and Central Asian coins, journal articles are one of the primary sources for reference material, and many are not easy to acquire. The ability to catalog all of my numismatic literature, not just my books, would be well appreciated!

Do you mean you own the article without the journal in which they were published? A digital version?

Yes, digital copies. Many of the journals are difficult to find as they’re older or published in countries like Uzbekistan, so I’ve had to dig online to find individual articles. Some of those exist in Numista’s Literature section as references, but can’t be added to My Bookshelf right now, which would be a wonderful addition in my eyes.
Wouldnt it be weird to consider we all “own” all books listed in Numista with a PDF ?
I guess I dont understand why do you need to store this info?
I agree it would be odd to claim we “own" them, thats true. To me, it would just be helpful to be able to consolidate relevant catalogs in one place on Numista. Perhaps instead of adding the ability to add articles and papers to our bookshelf, a feature for pinning articles could work.
