Citation: "DoubleEggbert56"Issuer #51 (I know, I know, not impressive):

Ancient Greece - Thessaloniki
Bronze Æ13 (though most are around 18) - minted 187 - 31 BCE

(photos from the NumisCorner page it was from)
First ancient coin, and while not the most impressive piece, I'm still happy with it.
Very beautiful coin! Thessaloniki is my first issuer of Greece Ancient too. Congrats.

Thanks! For the good of Numista, I thought I'd get a coin that wasn't on the catalogue. It's my little way of helping out the site - plus I get a cool coin that isn't too pricey. The detail is sharper in person and the coin is more greyish-brown, but I wasn't able to take a photo.

...ugh. That almost never worked out for me - when I tried to enter a coin I usually found out that the referee didn't accept it without pics, and the pics I had weren't good enough.

That was before the new guidelines. With them I would so obviously have no chance that I probably just wouldn't try unless I already had pre-prepared pics (easier for banknotes, due to the Banknote Museum), and not necessarily even then.
Citation: "Stewartdiver"Will do tomorrow. Though in 2x2 now 😁

I buy from many different sources:  auction houses in Poland, Belgium, San Marino, Germany, Italy and the U.S. (only CNG), MA-shops, occasionally eBay.

It's not a very efficient way to collect, and I occasionally spend more on postage than I would like.

@tdziemia, are you trying to get a coin from every European state/canton?

No.  I am not collecting issuers.

Currently the most active theme in my collection is patron saints on coins.  These mostly appear on Italian states, German states and Swiss cantons, so that's why those places are strongly represented.

Interesting. I am working on getting all  current issuers  but with coins from pre-1950

Good luck!

When I assembled a birthyear collection of world coins, I was able to do it using only eBay.

For 20th century coins, I would be using eBay, but I am mostly collecting medieval to c. 1800.
