Every week I grab 2-3 boxes from a local bank in the US. Most of the time, they are bank rolled.
This week's haul from a box (50 rolls) of each…
Pennies (N.F. STRING & SON, INC. HARRISBURG, PA., U.S.A. rolls)Wheat cents (13) - the first half the box only produced a single wheat, but then things got a bit more interesting1911 - worn almost flat to where I could barely make out the second 1 in the date; wouldn't grade higher than Fair 1944,44-D,45-D,48-D,49-D,52,2x52-D,55,56-D,2x58-D Canadian (6)1932 - don't often see George V's portrait hunting US coin rolls 1972,78,88,93,99
Dimes (all customer rolled)1977-D clipped planchet Canadian (3):
Quarters (no-name bank rolls)2017-P Ozark Waterways - die chip / snow on the roof 2019-W San Antonio - this is the 3rd week in a row I find a W quarter with this design 2022-P Dr. Sally Ride - die chip / drooling Washington Canadian (1)
No silver, no proofs.

Just a couple days ago I got some rolls of dollar coins ( all bank wrapped) and instead of a dollar I got a Chuck E Chesse token.

Quarters (no name bank rolls)2023-P Bessie Coleman -- It's the 1st one I've come across. Was released in Feb and, as usual, it took about 3 months for P coins to start showing up in circulated coin rolls here. The only exception to that was the 2018 Minnesota quarter. Right from the start and to this day the vast majority of the ones I see have the P mintmark. a couple upgrades Halves (N.F. STRING & SON, INC. Can't complain about that :)

today i tried my luck and bought 4 rolls, 100pcs 2€ coins from my bank (Germany). Nothing spectacular, my result in sorting them:
- usual circulating: 70
- circulating from small countries: 8
- Finland: 3
- Greece: 2
- Ireland, Luxemburg, Slovakia
- german commemoratives: 18!
best: Karl der Grosse 2023G AU
- foreign commemoratives: 4
best: 30 years Berlin wall from France, 2019 xf
No bad way to get coins.
Tried my luck with this as well with two rolls (50 coins total) from a German central bank branch:
9 German:
N#2169 D
N#2162 D
N#5053 A
N#53570 G
N#69263 G
N#139058 F
N#193506 D
N#267621 J & G
And one Italian:
N#28324
Also lots of different standard circulating coins from different countries, but except one very nice 2018 Italian nothing I'll bother keeping or adding to the swap list.
I don't think I'll do this often as I'll be busy slowly spending 2 euro coins now, but every now and then good fun :)

I've been doing this with Australian coins. My best hit was the $1 2016 Decimal Currency Changeover coin. Nice low mintage. N#79177
Being able to snag silver quarters at will (more or less) would be amazing. They are at least 10 bucks a pop in these parts.

At this point, it's far more “less” than “more”. Lucky to find one in 10 boxes.

An unexpected find: when I first saw the dark edge, I thought it might be a steel penny, but it turned out to be a Belgian 1916 zinc 5 Cent (German WWI occupation coinage) Thanks! Also just gotta love that one of yours! What a weird journey that coin must have had …

Quarters (bank rolls) Nickels (mixed box: 40 bank rolls + 10 customer rolls)Buffalo (2): 29, 36 – These were in the same roll. Fairly common high mintage years, as far as buffalo nickels go. Pre-1960 (28): 3x 40, 41, 41-D, 3x 46, 2x 47, 48-D, 49, 49-S, 50, 51, 2x 53-D, 54-D, 54-S, 55-D, 57-D, 2x 58-D, 3x 59, 2x 59-D – 49-S and 50 are the best of these, with mintage below 10 million. Wish it was a 50-D, though. Canadian (2): 83, 86

Pennies (N.F. STRING & SON, INC. HARRISBURG, PA., U.S.A. rolls)Wheat cents (14): 42, 2x 44, 2x 45, 45-D, 46, 48, 2x 48-D, 51-D, 52-S, 2x 57-D Canadian (5): 75, 81, 82, 85, 89 Nickels (N.F. So, nothing fancy, but a decent number of finds overall. One of the 48-D cents was pretty nice with XF details and a bit of luster still left.

Stopped by a different bank today and used the opportunity to grab a couple more boxes, though it looks like they get their boxes from the same nearby fed branch in Minneapolis.
Nickels (N.F. STRING & SON, INC. HARRISBURG, PA., U.S.A. rolls)WWII 35% silver (2): 43-P, 45-P Pre-1960 Jefferson (20): 2x 39, 40-D, 2x 46, 46-D, 47, 48-D, 49, 51-D, 2x 53-D, 54, 56-D, 2x 57-D, 58-D, 3x 59-D Canadian: 1986 Swiss: 20 Rappen 1970 - The last time I found one of these was back in July. This one is the 2nd most common year after 1991. Pennies (N.F. STRING & SON, INC. HARRISBURG, PA., U.S.A. rolls)Wheat cents (5): 45-S, 46, 46-S, 48-S, 53-D 2009 Lincoln bicentennial / Formative Years - noticed it had a thicker edge and a really nice finish with a lighter color than regular copper plated zinc cents. Checked the weight - 3.16g - so turned out to be km442a (bronze w/ Satin finish) Canadian (10): 50, 52, 69, 73, 77, 78, 80, 2х 89, 99
So, a good nickel box. The penny box was a bit light on wheat cents, but at the same time very unusual to have so many with the S mintmark. And, I'm pretty pleased about that 2009.

Quarters (no-name bank rolls)2019-W Lowell a rather worn UK 10 Pence 1992 (N#879 )
So, still finding Ws, just not the ones I'm looking for.
Nickels (N.F. STRING & SON, INC. HARRISBURG, PA., U.S.A. rolls)Pre-1960 Jefferson (31): 39, 40, 2x 41, 2x 42 (both CN), 46, 47-S, 49, 49-D, 51, 51-S, 2x 52, 2x 52-D, 53, 54-D, 54-S, 55-D, 2x 56, 56-D, 57, 57-D, 3x 58-D, 3x 59-D
Quite a variety of dates, but nothing I don't already have and no silver this time. The best find of the box was an AU 1956.

Quarters (bank rolls)2016-S Fort Moultrie – Found one with the S mintmark a couple months ago, too. This one is a bit more worn. 2023-P Eleanor Roosevelt – This is the first one with the P mintmark that I've come across . Ds are already very common at this point.
Third box in a row w/o any W quarters.
Nickels (bank rolls)WWII 35% silver (1): 44-S Pre-1960 Jefferson (31): 4x 41, 3x46, 2x 46-D, 47-D, 49-D, 51, 51-D, 52-D, 2x 53, 53-D, 54, 54-D, 55-D, 2x 56-D, 3x 57-D, 58, 4x 58-D, 59 – no key dates; 2 with the lowest mintage were 51-D (20 mil) and 58 (17 mil) Canadian (1): 83

Thought it would be nice to show the Canadian side of coin rolls too from my last hunt 40 customer-wrapped nickel rolls
- (4) 1953-1964 Young Heads: 1960, 3 1964s (no die clash)
- (65) 1965-1981 Nickel Second Portraits
-> (1) 1970 (low mintage) -> (3) 1967 Canada 100 Commemoratives - (24) Americans -> oldest was a 1964 D -> 2005 Bison and Ocean View Commemoratives
-(1) 2002 dime -(1) 2000 penny A bit less in the Young Heads than what I usually get but an unusual amount of Americans + the 1970 and the Canada 100s were nice

Not really. When banks get them, they send them in to the Mint which melts them. If you have some, you can still spend it anywhere, but why waste your and everyone else's time? If you don't have any on hand, they round the total. So, if the total is $1.62 or $3.36, there's no use of pennies, the total will be rounded down to $1.60 and $3.35 anyway. But if you still decide to pay with them, the business sends them to the bank, which of course sends them to the mint for melting.

Quarters (bank rolls)2019-W San Antonio Missions -- 1st W of the year. Last year, found 9 of these Panama 1993 Cvarto de Balboa -- already have a 1966 of this type in better condition, so sending this one back into circulation
Nickels (bank rolls)Pre-1960 Jefferson (19): 38-D (solid XF), 2x 41, 41-S, 42, 46-D, 46-S, 48, 48-D, 49-D, 52-D, 53-D, 2x 54, 2х 54-D, 55, 2x 58-D, 59-D
One of the 41s was pretty nice, even has visible steps on Monticello. I'd put it at AU50. Lowest mintage: 38-D (5,376,000) and 55 (7,888,000).

Just a couple days ago I got some rolls of dollar coins ( all bank wrapped) and instead of a dollar I got a Chuck E Chesse token.
Did you grade the token, because people would grade the chuck e cheese tokens now days

Good evening,
@Houseofham , how long does it take you to search a box of each denomination?
I used to love searching, but it is getting harder and harder to find time.
It used to take me about an hour for a box of halfs, 3 hrs for a box of quarters. Never have I searched a box of dimes or pennies though.

That sounds about right, though with all the breaks I take, it takes longer, plus re-rolling takes another 15-20 minutes per box. Usually, I search while listening to something in the background, like news, an audio book, or something on YouTube.
I've stopped searching dimes now - too hard on my eyes. I still search pennies because wheat cents are easy to spot and there's more foreign coins that size and only a few zinc cents worth scoping. Dollars I only hunt maybe twice a year - there is no silver to find and I don't like the alloy they chose for them.

These coins were not released directly into circulation and could only be purchased, either individually or as rolls, from the Mint. They often end up in circulation when those who purchased rolls spend any extras they don't feel like keeping. So, they are relatively uncommon, but not rare, and barely have any value above face.
For Anthony dollars, the NIFC year is 1981. For Sacajawea/Native American dollars, the NIFC years are 2002-2008 and 2012-present. For Presidential dollars, the NIFC years are 2012-2016 and 2020.

Quarters (bank rolls)2018-S Pictured Rocks (NIFC) 2019-W American Memorial Park
I was already beginning to think I'd have to run to the bank Saturday morning and pick up another box or two, or I'd have nothing to post about, but the last 2 rolls saved the hunt AND that was the last 2019-W design I was missing and it's in great condition. Still missing 3 Ws from 2020, though, so the hunt continues.

I'm curious, how much does one have to pay for a box of pennies? I imagine it's not going to be that cheap to ship a box of coins to Europe.

This is the 12th San Antonio Missions W I have found. Maybe I can make a roll of them one day. 😁

Halves (bank rolls)clad 1976-S Bicentennial Proof NIFCs (7): 87-D, 07-P, 10-D, 18-D, 2x 19-D, 20-P newer: 3x 21-P, 22-D, 2x 22-P, 23-D, several rolls worth of 23-Ps
First time I've found a Bicentennial proof, first 87-D (I have found a couple 87s before, but not a D), and first 23-D. No 24s yet - product schedule on the US Mint site says they'll be released Apr 23, but it's likely going to be weeks, if not months, before I see any.
Nickels (bank rolls)WWII 35% silver (3): 42-P, 43-P, 45-S Pre-1960 Jefferson (20): 38, 40-D, 3x 41, 41-D, 46, 47, 48, 3x 49, 49-D, 53, 2x 53-D, 54-D, 56-D, 57-D, 58-D Canadian: 2000
More silver than I usually find.

Quarters (bank rolls)2000-D New Hampshire - very nice BU (upgrade) 2000-S South Carolina - supposed to be a proof, but no trace of cameo left; looks like any regular circulated quarter 2019-D San Antonio Missions - die chip on the left tip of the cross
A lot more 2023-D Maria Tallchief quarters starting to show up, but nothing from 2024 yet. 4th box in a row without any Ws.
Nickels (mixed box: 40 bank rolls + 10 customer-wrapped rolls)Pre-1960 Jefferson (24): 40, 2x 40-S, 41, 46-D, 46-S, 47, 47-D, 48-D, 49, 49-S, 50, 2x 52, 52-D, 53-D, 3x 54-D, 56, 2x 57-D, 58-D, 59-D Bermuda: 96 Canada (3): 68, 91, 21
No silver this time. The best finds of the box are 49-S and 50, both with sub-10 million mintage.

Quarters (bank rolls)2000-P Virginia DDO/DDR 2013-S Great Basic – circulation quality NIFC 2019-W River of No Return 2020-W Tallgrass Prairie
That was a good box. Can't remember the last time I found 2 Ws + other stuff. The box was stamped with a different pallet number than the ones from the previous 3-4 weeks, which didn't produce much. Hopefully, there will be more good stuff next week.
Nickels (bank rolls) WWII 35% silver: 45-D - corroded; metal-detecting find? I'll keep it as a hole filler until I find a better one, as that's the last non-error year line I was missing Pre-1960 Jefferson (34): 39, 39-S, 40, 40-D, 2x 41, 2x 46, 47, 48, 48-D, 49-D, 50, 2x 52, 2x 53-D, 53-S, 3x 54, 54-D, 55-D, 2x 56, 56-D, 2x 57, 4x 57-D, 2x 59-D 1976-D obverse off-center by ~5% Canadian (6): 83, 2x 84, 85, 86, 99
A lot of 1950s and a little bit of everything else. The best find was the 1939-S, a key date, only 6.63 million minted.

Sure. Now, it's pretty heavily worn, but you can still see the doubling on legends and the fat letters in PLURIBUS UNUM.

I used to do a lot of coin roll hunting in the 2000s, mostly halves. Then my banks started charging me both to order boxes and to return rolls. One bank had a free coin counter in the lobby, and would let me keep anything stuck to the magnet, but they removed the machine in 2012. My rate of good finds didn't justify the increasing fees, so I quit.
If your bank is letting you hunt rolls for free, enjoy it while it lasts.
